Director of Public Health

Croydon Council
Croydon
GBP 80,000 - 100,000
Job description

This is Croydon, the largest borough in London, offering huge opportunities but also facing significant health inequalities. This is an opportunity for an outstanding leader to make a massive difference.

The refresh of Croydon’s Health and Wellbeing strategy and the Council’s recent peer review of Public Health has presented an ideal opportunity for the Council and partners across the ‘One Croydon Alliance’ to set a new vision for public health in the borough. There is strong commitment across the whole system to maximize the role and impact of public health and target the social determinants of health by building on the unique assets of our communities. Our borough is one of the most diverse in London, with a rich heritage of creativity, where residents report a real sense of belonging to their local area and that people from different backgrounds get on well together.

As the Director of Public Health, you will provide expert professional advice to the Executive Mayor, Chief Executive, Health and Wellbeing Board, and others on all public health matters that relate to those who live and work in Croydon. You will deliver the statutory function of the Director of Public Health, working closely with the Council’s senior leadership team, local communities, and partners, ensuring impact and reach across all Council services and aiding the delivery of the Executive Mayor’s business plan. More than this, you will be joining and contributing to a forward-thinking Council that is ambitious for its people and place, with one of the most exciting and extensive transformation plans in the country.

As an aspiring or existing Director and Public Health Specialist registered with the GMC, GDC, or UKPHR, you will bring experience of leading and transforming teams and services, managing a substantial budget, and the ability to work with partners to deliver outcomes for residents.

For a confidential discussion about the role, contact Penny Ransley (07549 233685) or Chloe Foster (020 3971 0838).
