Director of Income Generation - Isabel Hospice

Join Isabel Hospice as Director of Income Generation and spearhead our new commercial income strategies. You will secure vital funds for outstanding palliative care and make a lasting impact by driving innovation, reaching new supporters, and enhancing our commercial ventures, alongside fundraising and retail.

  • Location: Hybrid/Hertfordshire, AL7 1JR (2 - 3 days per week in office)

Who we are

Isabel Hospice has provided free palliative care to its patients and their families since 1982. All our services are free of charge to those who need them, but they are not without cost, meaning we must raise £7 million each year to guarantee the future of our care.

We are a dynamic charity, keen to innovate and explore new ways of developing. What we need now is that drive and appetite for innovation to further diversify our income streams and identify commercial opportunities we have to offer. As such, we are looking for our next Director of Income Generation to take a leading role in this.

About the role

As a member of the Executive Team, you will play a key role in shaping the future of Isabel Hospice and developing and implementing its income generation strategy. You will be responsible for creating the Hospice’s commercial income strategy from new sources and delivering Isabel Hospice’s non-statutory income generation (which includes Fundraising and Retail).

As demands grow with a population that is living longer, the need to explore revenue streams outside of traditional fundraising is paramount to our success. This role will be responsible for identifying new income generation opportunities and overseeing the fundraising and retail functions.

The breakdown of the priorities for this person will be roughly 50% new income, 35% fundraising, and 15% retail.

Overseeing the Marketing and Communications, there will be a focus on income generation activities, managing the profile of the Hospice in end of life / palliative care in the Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care System, and engaging with key stakeholders. We aim to reach out to new, additional supporters who can be of benefit to the Hospice and develop a strategic approach to the donor journey to ensure the value of supporters is recognised.

Who we are looking for

As with any director-level role, leadership is a key skill. With responsibility for commercial, fundraising and retail income generation, you will be a compassionate leader and will inspire and motivate a passionate team to be ambitious and deliver stretching targets. As a people manager, you will encourage and facilitate creative thinking and a “can do” attitude in the teams to identify solutions to raise additional income and support Isabel Hospice in driving innovation through new commercial income generation strategies, as well as fundraising and retail.

We are looking for a creative, dynamic and ambitious senior fundraiser or business leader to drive innovative income growth and proactively seek out new opportunities for income generation. You will be a proven leader and people manager, contributing to the wider organisational strategy as part of the Executive Team and driving income generation growth.

We are open to receiving applications from existing Directors or those stepping into the director-level role for the first time. We encourage candidates to apply from outside of the charity sector who can bring entrepreneurial acumen and commercial expertise.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Senior management experience in commercial marketing or professional fundraising at a multi-million-pound level
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate individuals and high-performing teams to achieve key objectives
  • Ability to think creatively and identify business development opportunities
  • Excellent networking and communication skills
  • Capable and confident in public speaking – meetings, speaking engagements and social events
