Job description

The Royal Free London Group are looking to recruit two experienced, resourceful and compassionate Directors of Financial Performance to join our Local Executive Teams at Barnet Hospital and North Middlesex University Hospital.

The Director of Financial Performance is a member of the Health Unit Local Executive Team and a key stakeholder in the Royal Free London Group Senior Finance Leadership team. The post holder will be responsible for the development and delivery of financial strategy for their individual Health Unit to ensure long-term viability and financial stability of the Group, supported by the implementation of a sound financial framework and effective arrangements for financial governance.

We are looking to recruit leaders who want to understand and celebrate the diversity of our local patient and staff populations. Leaders with a growth mindset - who choose to see that there's always a solution to a defined problem - and have the skills to coach for improvement and motivate the individuals and teams around them to perform at the highest level. If these are values you share, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide financial leadership to the Health Unit, supporting the Hospital Chief Executive in developing, implementing, and monitoring the site financial plan. Aligned to this, the post holder will support the delivery of improved financial efficiency of the Health Unit.

The post holder will provide day-to-day financial leadership to the Health Unit site finance team. They will provide strategic and operational advice to the Hospital Chief Executive and the Local Executive (LEC) Board on financial performance against plans, ensuring any variances are explained and remedial action is taken. They will be responsible to the Hospital Chief Executive for the delivery of financial recovery of the Health Unit through provision of the required financial support, challenge, and analysis. The post holder will work with other stakeholders to ensure the necessary financial improvements are identified and programmes put in place to deliver on efficiencies, and their achievement is monitored and assured.

As a member of LEC, the post holder is required to contribute to the strategic priorities of the Health Unit.

The post holder will work as part of the Senior Finance Leadership team to support the Group Chief Finance Officer in the delivery of the financial plan of the Trust.

The post holder will work with the capital finance team to provide capital programme oversight for the Health Unit.

About us

Now is a really exciting time to join the Royal Free London Group. On 1st January 2025, North Middlesex University Hospital joined the RFL Group to bring the best of the NHS to every patient. The new single trust will bring the best of both our organisations together for the benefits of our patients.

The Royal Free Group is now one of the biggest NHS trusts in the country serving a population of over 2 million people, providing care across more than 70 sites in North London.

Barnet Hospital

Barnet is the Largest Borough in London with a population of approximately 389,100, which is expected to rise to over 400,000 by 2030. With a rapidly ageing population, it is focused on 'ageing well' - looking at how elderly patients can receive the best outcomes both in the hospital and at home. Its new £6.5 million emergency department provides a modern space to enable it to care for patients on the correct pathway upon entry, allowing for earlier diagnosis and same-day care where possible.

North Middlesex University Hospital

North Mid serves more than 600,000 people living across Enfield and Haringey and the surrounding areas, including Barnet and Waltham Forest, which is one of the most diverse in Europe. North Mid is ambitious in our role as an anchor institution and seeks to influence more than the transactional delivery of healthcare alone. Reducing health inequalities is at the heart of our True North Strategy.

Interviews are scheduled to take place on 7th February 2025.
