Position: Director of Development - Renewable Energy
Location: Fully Remote (Eastern or Central Time Zone Preferred)
Travel: Up to 50%
Role Overview:
We are seeking an entrepreneurial and strategic Director of Development to lead renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, battery storage, and green hydrogen, in the MISO, PJM, SPP, and ERCOT regions. The ideal candidate will be independent, capable of taking ownership of a geographic area, and driving projects to Notice to Proceed (NTP). They should be a collaborative team player, able to mentor and grow a team, and thrive in the dynamic, fast-paced environment of a start-up. Transparency, honesty, and a composed demeanour are essential, as is the ability to adapt to evolving situations while bringing energy and passion to the role.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of utility-scale and/or community-scale projects in the assigned regions (MISO, PJM, SPP, and/or ERCOT).
- Drive projects from inception to NTP, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Develop and execute strategic plans for project development and geographic expansion.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
- Mentor and grow a small team of development professionals, fostering a collaborative and dynamic team culture.
- Navigate the complexities of start-up operations with a calm and adaptable approach.
- Maintain transparency and honesty in all communications and dealings.
Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5 years of MISO, PJM, SPP, and ERCOT renewable energy project development experience.
- Proven experience in utility-scale and/or community-scale renewable energy project development, i.e. solar, wind, battery storage, and/or green hydrogen.
- Proven success in full lifecycle project development taking projects from greenfield to NTP.
- Strong cross-functional team management, communication, and negotiation skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and teams effectively.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and environmental standards.
- Proficiency with financial modelling, budgeting, etc. Proven analytical skills and presentation skills.
- Aptitude to make articulate presentations to internal and public audiences.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Experience working in a start-up environment preferred.
