Job description

Improving outcomes for our children and young people in Swindon is the Council’s number one priority. We have a clear vision and transformation plan in place to transform services and improve lives. The right leadership will be vital to our success, and we’ve made good progress on creating a strong, permanent senior management team.

Reporting to Lisa Arthey, Corporate Director of Children’s Services, you’ll lead across a broad portfolio, including: SEND, Education Services 0-25 years, Alternative Provision, Education other than at school (EOTAS) Service, and the Virtual School for Children Looked After. You’ll be responsible for delivering our education and inclusion strategy, preparing for our upcoming SEND inspection, and continuing to strengthen our partnerships to ensure a whole system approach.

In Swindon, we’re moving into a fully integrated model of education, early intervention and social care, and we’re therefore looking for someone who has the technical knowledge around attainment and SEND, but who operates as a systems leader. You’ll have the ability to empower staff and will play a significant role in maintaining the momentum of positive change we’ve created. You’ll bring a strong track record of delivering and sustaining the highest quality education and inclusion services for children and young people. The role requires a standout candidate with strong experience and expertise in actively listening to the voice of children, young people and their families, and putting this at the heart of service priorities and delivery.

There are exciting opportunities to act up and work outside of your direct sphere of influence and Swindon is a place where you can achieve things quickly and make a real difference. If you’re an inspirational leader who is passionate about making a real difference to the lives of children, young people, and their families then we’d love to hear from you.
