Job Title: Director, Membership & Engagement

Department: Membership & Engagement

Reports to: Chief Programs & Membership Officer

Location: Remote

Employment Type: Full-time

Salary Range: $92,000 - $109,250

Band: Level 6

Position Summary:

The Director of Membership & Engagement is responsible for developing, overseeing, and managing the strategic initiatives designed to engage, recruit, retain, and cultivate NSBE’s diverse membership. This includes chapters, communities (both domestic and international), individual members, and volunteers. The Director will collaborate closely with the Board National Membership Chair and the Membership Zone/Committee to establish and manage performance metrics. This role will ensure a high level of member satisfaction, efficient data management utilizing Fonteva, Help Scout Zapier, and Trello.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Team Management (35%):

  • Lead, coach, and support the Membership team through performance reviews, development plans, mentoring, and training.
  • Ensure effective communication and progress toward team goals.

Membership Strategy (30%):

  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit, retain, and engage NSBE members, fostering membership growth and refining NSBE’s value proposition.
  • Collaborate with the National Membership Chair and Membership Zone to create annual growth and retention plans.
  • Oversee the development and execution of membership campaigns and events to enhance engagement and retention.
  • Establish and manage performance metrics, membership structures, services, benefits, and policies.
  • Ensure data integrity and accurate reporting through effective data management processes.
  • Partner with IT to optimize Fonteva system operations for better tracking and analysis.
  • Evaluate and manage joint membership agreements with partners.
  • Administer, analyze, and report results from membership surveys.
  • Ensure timely and professional responses to all membership inquiries.

Volunteer Engagement (15%):

  • Lead NSBE’s volunteer engagement efforts, establishing standard reporting procedures and tools for staff and volunteer leaders.
  • Oversee volunteer management for key events, including NSBE’s regional conferences and annual convention.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to ensure strategic communication with volunteer leaders.
  • Support the Chief Programs & Membership Officer in planning and execution of annual leadership initiatives and meetings.

Budget & Financial Oversight (10%):

  • Develop and manage the Membership Department budget, leading annual planning in alignment with approved financial targets.
  • Reconcile membership dues for traditional and joint partnerships in collaboration with Accounting and Finance.

Registration Oversight (10%):

  • Collaborate with the Operations Team to develop project plans and timelines for events such as Fall Regional Conferences and the National Convention.
  • Lead the on-site registration at key events ensuring high-quality service.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage a wide range of stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 7–10 years of experience in membership management, including strategic planning and team leadership.
  • Proven success in growing membership, enhancing engagement, and managing volunteer networks.
  • Proficiency in membership database systems; experience with Fonteva, Salesforce, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and lead diverse teams.
  • Strong budget management and resource allocation skills.

TRAVEL:

Travel is required for the Annual National Convention, Fall Regional Conferences, National Transition and Leadership Conferences. Occasional travel to other conferences, chapters, and other industry-related events may be required and assigned by management.
