The Role

The Director, Commercial Operations is a senior role within the UK revenue team, responsible for driving operational excellence among our advertising sales teams, overseeing our ad revenue reporting and providing razor-sharp analysis. Reporting to the Executive Director - Business Operations, Europe, you'll work in close partnership with the UK's Chief Business Officer (CBO) to monitor our commercial performance, identify trends and opportunities in the market, and help our sales teams maximise these.

What will you be doing?

  • Oversee UK advertising-revenue reporting and sales-support forecasting for the Managing Director, Chief Business Officer and Executive Director Business Operations, Europe.
  • Manage a team of business managers who oversee reporting at the category/brand level. Those tasks include:
    • Ensure revenue is accounted for accurately each month, by chasing for all orders/revenue to be committed by the end of the month.
    • Revenue analysis, identifying key opportunities and gaps across platforms.
    • Update and maintain all sales pipelines.
    • Work with Heads of Industry to create their budget four times per year using insights and historical data trends.
    • Reporting digital, video, print, events and client revenue to the Director and HOI's.
    • Work with Sales, Production and Editorial on flatplans for our print editions.
    • Liaise with Editorial teams on themes and stories, and sponsored supplements liaison across digital, video, print and events.
    • POC for sales team and shared services on sales systems (Atlas and Adbook) queries, resolve queries and act as system champion.
    • Through competitor, client and sector analysis, help drive the commercial sales team to hit targets.
  • Run regular client and category advertising revenue reports for the Chief Business Officer and Managing Director, on request.
  • Collaborate with internal Finance partners to refine revenue reports and pipeline data for category leads (Heads of Industry), ensuring all reports are streamlined through central data sources.
  • Strive to improve and enhance data and reporting systems, e.g. exec/sales reporting, pipelines, CNCC/RFPs, vertical reports, run rates, etc.
  • Act as a sales team 'super-user' for our CRM (Salesforce) and related systems, and act as the point of contact for outsourced services.
  • Support the Executive Director, Business Operations to devise, plan and implement strategic initiatives across the UK.

Who you are:

  • In-depth understanding of advertising revenue streams.
  • Ability to identify business opportunities and help maximise revenue potential within the commercial landscape.
  • Experience with forecasting and pipeline management, particularly in a sales or business development context.
  • Expertise in analysing complex data and drawing concise, actionable insights for senior stakeholders.
  • Track record of improving and streamlining operational processes, ensuring efficiency and the effective use of central data sources.
  • Ability to oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously, ensuring they stay on track, on time, and within scope.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Resourceful / Problem-solver: an ability to help in any situation.
