Angus Independent Advocacy provides independent advocacy support across Angus to individuals facing barriers to having their views heard and taken into account. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has a voice and that their perspectives are respected in decision-making processes. We strive to empower individuals by addressing the unique challenges they face, ensuring their rights are upheld.

Role Description

This is a hybrid volunteer role for a Director on the Board of Directors. We are currently based in Arbroath, but many of our meetings take place online, with in-person meetings having the option to join remotely where appropriate. The Director will be responsible for guiding the organisation’s strategic direction alongside other Board members, ensuring effective governance, and supporting the development and implementation of key advocacy initiatives. Tasks include attending board meetings, participating in committees, and collaborating with other board members to drive the organisation's mission.

The Board currently meets bi-monthly in the evenings with a mix of online/in-person meetings.

Qualifications

1. Knowledge of governance and strategic planning
2. Experience in advocacy, community development, social work, management or finance beneficial
3. Familiarity with financial oversight and risk management
4. Excellent communication and decision-making skills
5. Ability to work collaboratively and independently
6. Commitment to the mission and values of Angus Independent Advocacy
7. Previous board experience is a plus but not essential, as training opportunities are available
