Dickinson College invites applications for Director of the Trout Gallery, the college’s art museum and teaching gallery. The Director is responsible for the operations of the gallery to include: all aspects of exhibition scheduling and planning; working with internal and external curators; independent curation from the permanent collection (works from antiquity to the present); collaborating on student and faculty exhibitions; educational programming across campus; outreach to the Carlisle, Central Pennsylvania, and broader artistic communities; collection development and management including donor cultivation; writing exhibition related publications; public relations, and supervision of a gallery staff of five (Registrar/Preparator; Educational Outreach; Administrative Assistant; 2 Gallery Attendants) plus student workers/interns. The Director works in close collaboration with other academic and administrative departments on campus, including particularly the art & art history department and college advancement. The Director holds an academic appointment as a contributing faculty member to the art & art history department, teaching one course in Museum Studies or their area of specialization annually and, in rotation, the senior seminar in Art History. Grant writing and collection acquisition is coordinated with college advancement. The Director is responsible for managing the budget, funded through the gallery’s endowment. The Director meets with a gallery advisory committee monthly and reports directly to the provost.
Minimum Requirements:
The position requires a PhD in Art History, five years or more prior experience in museum-related work, and teaching experience in higher education.
