Through collaboration with Military colleagues on one of the largest estates in the country, with an extensive overseas portfolio, you will have the opportunity of working on a diverse range of exciting, interesting, and often-challenging projects of National Interest in support of the UK Defence Mission.

The Role
As part of managing and maintaining the continued effective operation of the UK Defence Estate for both training and operational purposes, our Safeguarding Assistant Managers are responsible for managing the safeguarding process to ensure that Ministry of Defence operational assets and interests including aerodromes, explosive storage sites, transmitter facilities and offshore danger & exercise areas facilities on the UK mainland and offshore are not compromised by development.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our established team, and we are looking for a motivated suitably qualified administrator to join the team, working closely with military and civilian colleagues delivering exciting, varied activities, programmes, and formulating relevant subject matter expertise advice.

The MOD Estate is wide and varied; on this unique Estate variety is certain and no 2 days will be the same! The breadth of work on offer is exceptional with opportunities to get involved in a wide range of projects across the UK to enable Defence capability.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Main Responsibilities
The Safeguarding Assistant Manager will be responsible for managing the safeguarding process and the main responsibilities of the role are:

  1. Managing the initial safeguarding assessments of development consultations.
  2. Referral of consultations for detailed technical assessment.
  3. Formulating the position of the Ministry of Defence where technical or operational concerns are identified.
  4. Formally communicating the Safeguarding position, advice and support to defence customers, partners, developers, and Local Planning Authorities.
  5. Provide support to the wider team when necessary, including significant or contentious cases and other Safeguarding tasks.
  6. Provision of high-quality administration to the team, ensuring maintenance of delivery and update of operational support systems and databases.

Location
The role is based at Whittington Barracks, Lichfield, and the successful candidate will be expected to regularly attend for face-to-face meetings and collaboration. Alongside the advertised locations, other DIO locations may be considered and offered providing that it meets the business need of the post. If travelling outside your base location for duty reasons, you will have access to flights, hire cars, rail tickets and overnight accommodation. You can also claim 45 pence per mile should you choose to use your own vehicle for business travel.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. Person Specification
Essential Experience
Relevant, suitable experience and knowledge at an appropriate level in:
  1. Providing business support to multi-disciplinary teams.
  2. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Desirable Experience
  1. An understanding of the Town and Country Planning System and UK renewable energy issues, policies, and targets.
  2. Familiarity with and ability to use maps & charts.
  3. Working in a Defence environment.

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
