About Lambeth Council Digital, Data and Technology

We need an ambitious technical and ambitious person to join us as a Digital Officer in our Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) Service at Lambeth Council.

About the Role:

We need an experienced Digital Officer to join our team in Brixton.

The Digital Officer will focus on content, updating and maintaining, and end to end user journeys on the council’s digital platforms. Our digital platforms include our website, ancillary sites, online forms, and online applications that support our internal and external customers.

Day to day

Reporting to the Head of Service – Digital & Design, the Digital Officer will implement and build on the Councils Digital strategy and Customer Experience strategy.

  • To record, escalate and resolve customer queries relating to the council’s Website, Digital Customer Portal, eForms, Intranet and other key products.
  • To assist with the procurement and contract management activities undertaken by the council’s digital service area.
  • Use content management systems to create, review and update online content based on evidence from user research, user testing, feedback, and analytics.
  • To determine the best format for displaying information to the user and produce content autonomously.
  • To use ‘Plain English’ and communicate complex topics and processes in a way that online users can understand with ease.
  • To collaborate with subject matter experts and ensure the accuracy, relevance, and timeliness of digital content.
  • To produce content that complies with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2 – Level AA) and promote web accessibility throughout the organisation.
  • To use and support the development of in-house style guides and quality management systems.
  • To carry out regular site maintenance including link-checking, accessibility checks, site reliability, archiving and audience usage analysis.
  • To highlight personal training and development requirements needed to carry out the responsibilities of the post.
  • To maintain an awareness of technology advancements and make recommendations that enhance the Council’s digital offer.
  • To work within the context of legislative frameworks and carry out the responsibilities of the post with due regard to the Council’s Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, and Investors in People Standard.

To be considered for interview, your CV and supporting statement will clearly evidence:

  • Good working knowledge of web technologies – website, customer portals, eForms, web analytics
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS, as well as SEO and web design.
  • Understand information management in a large complex organisation
  • Understanding of usability and accessibility challenges for digital products, including responsive and adaptive design
  • Good copy writing and editorial skills
  • Web editing using web design software and or CMS
  • Design of electronic forms for online transactions

You will get extra points for

  • Demonstrating you have researched and understand the priorities of Lambeth Council.
  • Understanding of public sector and local government digital transformation practices.
  • Writing and editing for an on-line environment
