We're hiring: Digital reporter Birmingham
Are you a sharp, digital-savvy journalist with a passion for storytelling? Birmingham World is looking for a talented Digital Reporter to join our dynamic newsroom and bring the biggest stories to life online.
You’ll be covering the issues that matter most to Birmingham and the Midlands, delivering fast, engaging, and impactful content. As part of a Midlands-wide reporting team, you’ll also work alongside top journalists covering news across Birmingham, Derby, and Nottingham.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Breaking and trending news reacting fast, reporting smart
- Crafting compelling digital stories that captivate audiences
- Shooting and editing video for social platforms
- Using data and analytics to shape content strategies
- Writing and creating lifestyle driven content on various platforms to engage our audience
- Strong knowledge of social platforms and how to use them effectively
- Working flexible shifts, including weekends, depending on the news agenda
What We’re Looking For:- A skilled writer who can generate their own ideas and is eager to learn
- A proactive journalist - great at building contacts, talking to people, interpreting data, and forward planning
- Someone motivated by high engagement, who can understand and react to draw in the audience
- Experience with self-shooting and editing video for digital platforms, including social media
- Someone who thrives in a Midlands-wide team and is flexible to cover stories across the entire region when needed.
Required Skills & Experience:- NCTJ Diploma or equivalent experience
- Sound legal knowledge and understanding of the IPSO code
- Ability to take an accurate shorthand note (100wpm ideal or working towards)
- Accurate and engaging writing style
- Strong understanding of and ability to react to digital analytics
- Experience creating engaging multimedia reports, including video content
- Must live in the Midlands (preferably Birmingham or nearby) and be able to drive
