The Financial Conduct Authority is the conduct regulator for around 50,000 financial services firms and financial markets in the UK and the prudential supervisor for 48,000 firms.

Position Overview

Salary: London ranging from £46,000 to £61,000 per annum – Salary offered will be based on skills and experience.

The Team/Department

The Enforcement Intelligence & Specialist Services Directorate (EISS) sits at the heart of Enforcement & Market Oversight (EMO) and provides strategic and highly specialised central support to EMO and the wider FCA.

The Digital Forensics Unit (DFU) within EISS provides comprehensive digital evidence services to Enforcement and Market Oversight, employing strategic forensic investigative techniques for the acquisition, preservation, recovery, and presentation of digital evidence.

The Forensic Science Regulator Act (2021) Code of Practice requires the regulation of forensic science activity (FSA), undertaken as part of criminal proceedings, to operate effective quality management processes and procedures, meeting the requirements of the code. Compliance is demonstrated by having accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025. The Quality Management Team manages this accreditation process.

Role Responsibilities

  1. Quality Assurance Associate for the DFU, promoting and implementing quality standards in line with ISO 17025 requirements.
  2. Delivery of the internal audit and assurance process, under supervision and escalating where necessary, including identifying non-conformance arising from accredited activities including impact analysis and root cause investigation.
  3. Undertaking Method Development and Validation Exercises to demonstrate robust scientific methodology.
  4. Identifying potential risks which may result in inaccurate, unreliable, misleading, or unclear results that could impact the Criminal Justice System.
  5. Assisting the Quality Assurance Manager with the creation of processes, guidance, and working practices along with associated documentation.
  6. Assisting the Quality Assurance Manager to prepare submissions and paperwork for United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) assessments and visits.

Required Skills and Experience

  1. Experience of undertaking quality assurance exercises and/or of undertaking internal or external audits.
  2. Experience of digital forensics (or forensic science) and quality assurance/validation testing of digital forensics tools and capabilities.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  4. Team player with a proactive, flexible, and willing approach.
  5. Good analytical skills with a high level of inquisitiveness.
  6. Self-motivation and the ability to work within deadlines.
  7. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders.
