Job description

On behalf of The Home Office we are looking for a Digital Business Architect (Inside IR35) for a 12 month contract. Hybrid working with 3 days per week required in Croydon or Heathrow.

The Home Office covers three systems: Homeland Security, Public Safety and Borders, and Immigration and Citizenship. These systems work collaboratively to deliver our cross-cutting priorities, whilst providing increasingly efficient and secure services for the public. These are difficult areas that can rapidly change in the global environment we work in - this makes us one of the most exciting and stimulating government departments in which to work.

The Digital Business Architect will act as an interface between the business and the product teams within the Home Office. You will likely be a subject matter expert in your area and bring this domain expertise to support the analysis, design and development phases of the product lifecycle.

You will work closely with the DDaT product management team to develop product(s) that support the needs of the organisation. You will build a shared understanding between the development team, business stakeholders and end users about what the product does and how it achieves the outcomes it needs to. You will be expected to have the influence to support the change back into the operation.

As a Digital Business Architect your main responsibilities will be to:

  1. Analyse the business needs including business process and thorough data analysis.
  2. Provide impact assessments of new initiatives, new solutions and innovative ways of solving business problems.
  3. Provide advice on new emerging technologies, ways to advance business development and staff skills.
  4. Support the strategic direction and vision to support prioritisation of activities.
  5. Assess the needs of the business and ensuring the product meets these needs whilst also removing any barriers to the development of the product.
  6. Acting as a point of contact between product team and the business, facilitating any discussions and leveraging your existing relationships to ensure both teams are linked up.
  7. Influencing the business in order to implement change (e.g. to operational processes) to improve outcomes.
  8. Complete any service investment case that is required, dependent on the nature of the lifecycle.
  9. Constructively challenge the service and product teams based on service/product metrics and user feedback.
  10. Represent the service to a board of senior stakeholders.
  11. Keep people (e.g. board members, other partners, business contacts) informed about the development of the service throughout the lifecycle.

Essential:

  1. An active SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this position.
  2. Demonstratable experience in a Business Architect role or similar position, ideally within an IT / Digital environment.
  3. Experience of working with data and SQL.
  4. Experience of building strategic, influential relationships with senior stakeholders and using those relationships to enhance products and systems and implement effective change.
  5. Experience of reviewing metrics and data around a service on an ongoing basis and championing the data and what it tells you about the service.
  6. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable:

  1. Understanding of agile methodology and awareness of digital environments.
  2. Experience of communicating using a variety of methods (written reports, verbal feedback, presentations etc.) and applying the appropriate method to each scenario/audience.
  3. Experience of decision-making based on the need for business value, with an ability to digest information from a multitude of sources and use that to develop a prioritised plan of action.
  4. Jira / Confluence experience.
  5. Public Sector experience.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
