Development Engineer

A leading house builder has a requirement for a Development Engineer to join their Technical team.

The company delivers high-quality homes across the North West and Midlands region, developing brownfield sites, transforming existing buildings and disused land into well-designed, energy-efficient homes ranging from starter homes to luxury family homes.

Reporting to: Technical Manager and Technical Director
Responsibilities:

  1. Provide technical support and information to Construction, Commercial, Sales, and Technical Departments;
  2. Assist the Technical and Commercial Departments in issuing tender drawings to contractors, assessing them upon return and engaging with pre-award meetings.
  3. Review engineering designs to ensure their cost-effectiveness and buildability;
  4. Co-ordinate as-built surveys as required and produce AutoCAD as-built road and sewer adoption drawings;
  5. Inspect road and sewer works from commencement to formal adoption by Local Authority, ensuring works are carried out within an agreed budget and timescale.
  6. Obtain, check, and issue plot postal addresses.
  7. Obtain multi-utility/service connection quotations and assess them with the Engineering Manager before appointment, monitoring and assisting site teams in delivering mains and plot connections.
  8. Prior to legal completion of all new homes, ensure the appropriate driveways and footpaths are completed to agreed standards.
  9. Answer queries from the site on engineering issues with support from Line Manager/s.
  10. Prepare and maintain drawing registers for all engineering details and drawings, ensuring up-to-date records are kept of all drawing issues.
  11. Produce, manage, and monitor a Materials Management Plan for required and surplus topsoil and subsoil for each allocated Development.
  12. Check and coordinate information from external consultants, suppliers, and manufacturers on engineering-related details.

Skills & Experience:
  1. The successful candidate must have previous experience working on new build housing developments, advising on technical and engineering works.
  2. Experienced in remediation works.
  3. Sound knowledge of adoption works.
  4. Good engineering knowledge from previous experience in the House Building Sector.
  5. Ability to work within a busy team environment and autonomously as the role requires.
