Job Title: Despatch Manager

Division: Primary Care UK

Location: Rhymney

Who We Are

The Primary Care division of DCC Healthcare has revenues of c.£150m in the German, Swiss and British markets enabled through its own commercial teams. High quality medical and diagnostic products are supplied for use in primary care, laboratory, and blue light settings. The division employs approximately 425 people in 3 countries. Primary Care UK consists of Williams Medical (https://www.wms.co.uk/) with revenues of c.£60M and SP Services (https://www.spservices.co.uk/) with revenues of c.£10M both specialise in providing a wide range of medical, healthcare products and equipment to healthcare professionals and organisations. Primary Care UK employs approximately 200 people across two purpose-built facilities, one in Telford, West Midlands England and one in Rhymney, South Wales.

Role Summary

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Despatch Manager to join our dynamic team. If you have a passion for ensuring efficient and effective despatch operations in a fast-paced distribution environment, we want to hear from you! With the guidance of the Warehouse Manager, you will take control of despatch management and associated functions within Williams Medical Supplies Rhymney site. You will ensure that standards, disciplines, and methods of professional operations are followed within a fast-moving Healthcare business.

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring that day one for day two service is within SLA tolerance and bridging any abnormalities to this is critical.
  • Ensuring that the cleanliness and orderliness of the entire area is maintained at the highest level.
  • Maintaining the sections KPI’s to target.
  • Oversee the loading and unloading process to ensure accuracy and prevent damage.
  • Supervising and managing despatch staff: supporting the team, setting objectives, conducting appraisals and one-to-one meetings, conducting daily departmental huddles whilst ensuring that performance is reported in a timely manner.
  • Managing and progressing continuous improvement projects within own section and in line with team objectives without impinging on quality standards.
  • Liaising & negotiating with suppliers and other areas of the business.
  • Monitor operational costs and work within budget constraints.
  • Developing the sections by analysing current productivity & performance versus growth plans of the business and recommending new solutions.
  • Collating information required to comply with the Environmental Agency Waste Packaging Regulations when required.
  • Cover the Warehouse Manager and Team Co-ordinators should the situation arise, which may include covering the late shift.
  • Ensure that there are operational procedures in place to cover all operations within one’s remit.
  • Ensure that third party carriers are providing the best possible service by analysing weekly performance stats and providing feedback to the Warehouse Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in dispatch, logistics, or warehouse management.
  • Proven track record in team supervision and process improvement.
  • Familiarity with transportation and warehouse management software (e.g., SAP, WMS).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
