Designated Project Engineer - Anglia

I am recruiting for Civil Engineering Designated Project Engineer (DPE) to support the Anglia Asset Protection team in ensuring that risks to Network Rail’s assets and operations from external projects are adequately considered and controlled.

Hourly rate based on experience.

The Civil Engineering Designated Project Engineer (DPE) will support the Anglia Asset Protection team in ensuring that risks to Network Rail’s assets and operations from external projects are adequately considered and controlled.

1. Shall preferably be a Chartered Engineer (preferably MICE), and have a relevant engineering degree (BSc/BEng or equivalent) and minimum 10 years general relevant experience.
2. Able to undertake the NR/L2/RSE/02009 role of Designated Project Engineer (DPE).
3. Able to undertake the NR/L2/RSE/02009 role of Project Engineer (PE).
4. Shall have a sound understanding of the Construction, Design and Management (CDM) 2015 Regulations, & Common Safety Method (CSM) 2013 Regulations, specifically the requirements associated with Asset Protection on Third Party, Major and Minor Projects, always with the customer in mind.
5. Shall have a sound understanding of Network Rail's requirements regarding the Risk Assessment process.
6. Co-ordination of work with other contractors and Network Rail.
7. Liaison with Route Engineers (discipline).
8. The Senior Asset Protection Engineer's duties and responsibilities are anticipated as, but not limited to the following:
9. Manage all engineering and development assurance activities so that they result in schemes that are affordable, and that meet programme requirements in a safe & environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and quality.
10. Manage the engineering assurance process giving full consideration to safety, reliability, maintainability, ease of construction, and environmental/whole life issues. Engineering excellence is to be supported by:
11. Review compliance with appropriate standards. (NR/L2/CIV/003, NR/L3/CIV/0063 etc.)
12. Attendance at IDC/IDRs as required.
13. Use risk ID and evaluation methods (e.g. HAZOP, QRA etc.), as suitable, to evaluate and compare options.
14. Assist the customer/client in the development of the selected single option.
15. Assure and lead (or undertake where applicable) the preparation of the full engineering assurance package required for commencement of the detailed design and participate in answering clarifications/queries as needed.
16. Carry out independent checking of safety critical design documentation.
17. Carry out engineering verifications.
18. Manage the engineering interfaces of allocated proposals with concurrent work in other disciplines.
19. Act as or liaise with the appropriate Project Engineer so that method statements for site works and surveys in particular are approved to the required standards.
20. Assure whether contractors’ design, construction and specialist personnel are competent. (CEM/CRE appointment etc.)

The individual will be required for 5 days per week until the end of February 2025. The individual will be required to attend the office at least 2 days per week (Stratford, London) if possible and also be in attendance at design reviews and IDC’s with our customers.
