Job description

NOV is looking for a Design Technician to join one of our Hydra Rig Business Units in Great Yarmouth.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform drafting activities as required by the Engineering department.
  2. Design components for well servicing equipment based on previous examples and general engineering principles.
  3. Assist in the research and development of new products.
  4. Consult external vendors and internal experts as required.
  5. Prepare detailed schematic drawings and process flow drawings as required.
  6. Provide strong internal communication among departments to ensure equipment standardization, project coordination, and product information.
  7. Participate in technical/sales meetings to ensure the feasibility of the project considering the overall design of the equipment.
  8. Provide estimates to the Engineering Manager on completion of drawings and inform them of any concerns regarding project deadlines.
  9. Attend and contribute to weekly production and project meetings.
  10. Measure and sketch components in a shop or field environment.
  11. Monitor the fabrication of equipment to ensure design intent is met and offer feedback on improving designs.
  12. Provide complete job summary reports to record possible improvements for the next job.
  13. Follow all applicable company and corporate policies, guiding principles, procedures, and programmes; including but not limited to the process map, support processes, health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  14. Maintain all company information as confidential.
  15. Perform all other assigned or associated tasks and duties to help meet or exceed customer expectations and company goals.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  1. A qualification including Mechanical Engineering at any level up to a first degree is required.
  2. Prior experience with SolidWorks is required, additional experience with AutoCAD is preferred.
  3. Experience in the design and operation of energy industry service equipment is desirable.
  4. Computer literate including a good command of Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  5. Project management experience and use of PLM and ERP systems is considered an asset.
  6. Full, current UK car Driving Licence is preferred.
