Job description

Design Manager - Modular Specialist - £Competitive + Package

Your new company
HAYS Architecture & Design are proud to be working in collaboration again with a well-known Specialist Contractor, in their search for an experienced Design Manager to join their team. Based just outside of Belfast, this client has built an enviable name for themselves across the modular / off-site solutions market and the wider construction industry, off the back of expert delivery of technically complex schemes and frameworks throughout their 50+ years in operation. With their job flow robust and order books full, they offer an intriguing position and entry into the world of modular / off-site, and in general, they have a dynamic team of designers working on increasingly interesting and unique jobs.

Your new role
This role will have you working within and managing a multi-disciplinary design office where you will become a pivotal member of the team, working effectively as an interface between both client and design teams to maximise project buildability on all design matters. The primary purpose of this position is to manage all aspects of the design process across various projects from inception to completion. This will include liaising with clients, client's agents, and end users to develop the design through concept, planning, manufacturing, on-site, and handover. Design will be completed by both internal design teams and external consultancies. Projects typically range from £0.5m to £30m+ and can be delivered across a number of sectors, primarily education, healthcare, commercial, and residential.

General overview of duties / responsibilities:

  1. Ownership of the design and design process from inception to completion.
  2. Develop and manage design programmes in line with the project programme and ensure all design information is delivered on time.
  3. Attend internal and external meetings, including chairing and accurately minuting as necessary, ensuring distribution to relevant parties.
  4. Resource management of internal and external design teams.
  5. Detailed review of all design drawings and information in accordance with Building Regulations, employers' requirements, statutory bodies, and buildability requirements.
  6. Review design proposals from internal and external consultants ensuring the most competitive and effective solution is arrived at.
  7. Support Procurement and QS Department in evaluation of alternative design solutions offered by subcontractors.
  8. Research and develop new products for alternative forms of construction.
  9. Monitor and manage Health & Safety and CDM issues.

What you'll need to succeed
Ideally, you will be an established Design Coordinator / Design Manager with 5+ years of design-related experience with a good track record of Project Management over £multi-million works. The wider design team comprises professionals from an Architectural Technology background, so it would be ideal if you were too. However, you should be degree qualified in Architecture / Architectural Technology & Management / Construction & Project Management or similar, with 5+ years experience in a similar / transferable role. You'll have in-depth knowledge of construction & building methodologies, including Building Regulations, Building Bulletins, HTMs, and planning policy. To be successful, you'll need people management and leadership skills, effective time management and communication, and be able to use 3D software (ArchiCAD / Revit / Solibri) - or be able to interpret / critique / challenge drawing packages completed in such.

What you'll get in return
A full-time position with a progressive organisation that rewards performance and ability. With stability and opportunity on offer, along with a competitive remuneration & benefits package, this is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced individual to gain a platform to showcase their talents in a forward-thinking company, surrounded by like-minded colleagues. Full details will be disclosed as part of the process, but reach out now to ensure consideration.
