Design Manager - The Company:

Our client is a successful and leading Tier 1 UK wide main contractor with an established reputation for being one of the top employers in the country. Typical projects are between £10m and £75m+ in value across New Build projects within Schools and Accommodation typically. The company has an excellent pipeline of work within the South West and is a growing business with progression opportunity.

Design Manager - The Role:

A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Design Manager with specific School project experience. You will be working closely with the Senior Design Manager and Operations teams on a range of New Build School projects based between sites, home and the office.

Design Manager - Accountabilities and Key Tasks:

1. Arranging and chairing the Design team meetings to lead the process with the consultants and sub-contract designers, issuing minutes and ensuring the resulting actions are actioned.
2. Collate and manage the contract specifications, drawing and related documents for the construction process.
3. Carry out drawing reviews, issuing comments, then ensuring all comments are added accordingly to the design.
4. Carry out technical reviews of any proposed works to ensure contractual and technical compliance.
5. Prepare and manage the Design and procurement schedule and issue information release schedules to set design target dates.
6. Offer input and design reviews into the procurement process.
7. Providing design support to Project Management teams.
8. Review and implement value engineering opportunities.
9. Utilising specialist consultants to coordinate the information and design to ensure BREEAM and Part L compliance are attained as required.
10. Coordinate the submission of information to satisfy Building Control compliance.
11. Coordinate the submission of information to satisfy all planning conditions are discharged.
12. Lead Design review workshop with the client/tenant to ensure understanding and satisfaction with proposed works.
13. Manage the Design Change Proposals for client sign off.
14. Submitting Design information to the client team and recording, tracking and closing out any comments and queries that arise.
15. Issue, track and close out any Requests For Information that arise to enable the design to be completed.
16. Assist in the collation of the O&M Health and Safety file.

Design Manager - The Person:

1. You will have solid experience with either a national or regional main contractor.
2. MUST have experience on new build school projects.
3. You could be from an Architectural background as long as you have RIBA stages 4 and 5.
4. Demonstrable experience working on pre and post-construction design and build projects.
5. Experience on Accommodation projects is beneficial.
6. Experience working on projects to £10m plus.
7. Innovative - ability to identify better ways of doing things.
8. A good communicator, able to liaise between different departments in order to achieve a common goal.
