Design Engineer – Aircraft Structures for eVTOL

Job Type: Contract

Salary / Rate: Negotiable

Location: Bristol

Duration: 1 year hybrid contract

Job Description:

  1. Experienced in airframe structure design engineering development.
  2. Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering graduate or post graduate with a minimum of 6 to 10 years of experience in executing Design activities.
  3. Experience working on eVTOL aircraft design, build, and test related work is an advantage.
  4. Experience in providing design and build services for a prototype electrical vertical take-off/landing aircraft.
  5. Deliver professional design engineering services per week for the stated duration of this engagement, providing design and design checking capability.
  6. Capable of delivering design engineering, including creation and cross-check of model-based definitions within the 3D Experience digital mock-up (DMU).
  7. Act as an independent team while ensuring compatibility and continuity of design with other relevant engineering teams, particularly with the Systems Integration team.
  8. Report via a designated Lead to the relevant Design Lead for the Programme(s).
  9. Delivery will require some physical attendance at customer facilities for key meetings and design reviews, with acceptable hybrid working between customer offices and Supplier offices.
  10. Perform Design activities and interact within the team and interface teams towards a common objective for design maturity.
  11. Define design solutions for new components/assemblies and modifications to existing components (Composites and metallic) according to cost, weight, quality, manufacturability, serviceability, and performance.
  12. Provide evidence of design compliance with Customer/Technical specifications.
  13. Prepare drawings and other engineering data required for the manufacturing of the product and data submittal to the customer.
  14. Produce ECN as required to support manufacturing, customers, quality, and certification.
  15. Ensure own and team’s quality of deliveries.

Must-have skills:

  1. Design engineering experience and coordinate with an authorized Design Approver Signatory on Airframe structure - metallic and/or composite aero structures.
  2. Excellent knowledge of Aero structures, Wing, Empennage, and Fuselage.
  3. Excellent knowledge of computerized design and analysis methods (CATIA V5).
  4. Experience with GD&T (tolerance stack up).
  5. Good experience of aerospace Composite (honeycomb)/Metallic materials and manufacturing processes.
  6. Customer-focused with the ability to establish credibility with internal and external customers.
  7. Awareness of A/C industry standards, regulations, and qualification requirements.
  8. Good English verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Able to work to tight, demanding deadlines and customer demands.
  10. Ability to work effectively within an integrated project team.

Desired Skills:

  1. Dassault 3D Experience.
  2. Microsoft Office and Teams.
  3. Product Lifecycle Management (Windchill).
