Design Engineer

WH Bence have an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer to join their team.

Location: Yate, Bristol, BS37 5NG

Salary: £40K - £45K PA

Job Type: Full time, Permanent, Working Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 (1 Hour Break)

Design Engineer The Role:

We are looking for a mechanical Design Engineer with Automotive experience. This role will progress towards leading individual jobs working cradle to the grave from initial outset of design conception through to delivery.

Design Engineer Key Responsibilities:

1. Consult with the sales team to create innovative designs for presentations, bids, and tenders
2. Liaise closely with procurement to ensure timely availability of working drawings for supplier quotations
3. Provide accurate manufacturing drawings to production departments
4. Represent the company and communicate with customers in person and over the phone
5. Take responsibility for design quality, accuracy, timely delivery, and management
6. Improve and expand Bence products
7. Keep up to date with new ideas, designs, and legislation
8. Investigate new materials for next-generation designs
9. Ensure consistent and compliant design approaches
10. Maintain and improve the standard of creative design work
11. Understand the requirements of metal fabrication and woodwork/joinery for ease of production
12. Identify potential cost savings through design improvements with the Production and Operations teams
13. Collaborate with refrigeration suppliers to ensure suitable routing for a mobile environment
14. Understand general electrical principles

Design Engineer You:

1. Relevant design engineer qualifications preferred
2. Experience in mechanical background with some automotive knowledge
3. Thorough understanding and working experience of Solidworks PDM software and Design Package, 2D & 3D CAD design package
4. Knowledge of engineering principles
5. Understand the requirements of coachbuilding metal fabrication and woodwork/joinery
6. Trailer and vehicle conversion experience would be great, but not critical
7. Competent to work with all aspects of Microsoft Office
8. Numerate, capable of accurate calculations
9. Strong problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented approach
