DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Construction Manager to join our EU Construction team. This role is critical in managing the planning, design, and construction of new Amazon Sortation Centers as well as the expansion and optimization of existing facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the end-to-end project management of new Sortation Center construction projects and the extension of current facilities.
  2. Play a pivotal role in developing and implementing Amazon's EU network infrastructure strategy.
  3. Evaluate and analyze facility design scenarios to ensure optimal build-out and operational efficiency.
  4. Drive the standardization of technical processes and facility-related systems across the network.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  6. Oversee contract management, ensuring compliance with national and local legislation as well as Amazon standards and policies.

What We Are Looking For:
This role combines expertise in construction engineering, project management, facilities management, and contract administration. The ideal candidate will have:

  1. A proven track record in planning, designing, and managing construction projects for new facilities as well as enhancements to existing ones.
  2. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate design and construction scenarios effectively.

The role will be based in the UK with up to 50% of time on job travel, either domestically or to other EMEA countries.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for overseeing construction engineering, planning, and design for Amazon Sortation Centers and other new or expansion projects.
  2. Responsible for project support on new network buildings and additional capacity requirements within existing European Sortation Centers.
  3. Undertake construction engineering design on new and remodel projects.
  4. Prepare reports, specifications, and technical analysis to fully define the design requirements, equipment, and services required.
  5. Survey facilities, develop and document procedures to audit the facility, provide evaluations and analysis, and recommend solutions to facility infrastructure, safety, and security problems involving facilities and people.
  6. Negotiate contracts with vendors and present formal documentation for approval when required.
  7. Ensure that contracts are fit for purpose, cost-effective, and incorporate appropriate Service Level Agreements.
  8. Provide overall site management, coordination, planning, specification of business proposals, and coordination of subcontractors.
  9. Facilitate and team with others on due diligence evaluation of new opportunities.
  10. Coach and guide all project teams (sub-contractors, maintenance engineers, and commissioning engineers) throughout the full project life cycle.
  11. Ensure that contracted resources deliver work to meet duration and quality targets, addressing and ensuring the correction of under-performance issues.
  12. Audit contractors to check that the skills and competences of contract labor are appropriate to need and they are fit to undertake the work on which they will be deployed.
  13. Inform contractors of projected changes in resource or work demand so that they can take appropriate action.
  14. Establish and operate the information systems necessary for effective scheduling and recording of contract work.
  15. Support contractors' work and help them to achieve higher performance levels.
  16. Coach other new members on best practices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  1. B.Sc of Civil or Engineering or Architecture, or Construction Management or Country equivalent.
  2. Project management, construction or engineering experience with a proven track record of managing both new builds and the enhancement of existing warehouses/logistics buildings.
  3. Construction market experience in one or more EU countries is a key asset.
  4. Project Management experience from design phase through implementation and operation.
  5. Experience negotiating construction & procurement contracts in EU.
  6. Proven track record of management of construction quality systems.
  7. Experience in managing/coordinating internal and external teams.
  8. Fluency in English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience of Six Sigma and Lean analytical techniques.
  2. MRICS / RIBA / CIOB qualified, or Country equivalent.
  3. PMI / APM Project Management Qualification.
  4. Chartered Engineer, Surveyor, Construction Manager, Project Manager or Country equivalent.
  5. Project Management experience from design phase through implementation and operation.
  6. French, German, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans, and Zulu are considered preferred qualifications.
