What’s the role?

The derivatives trading position is based in London as part of Shell’s Commodity Derivatives Trading (CDT) Team. The role will report directly to the RTL Derivatives & Systematic Trading Europe but you will be a key part of Global Gasoline Trading whose European team is based jointly in Rotterdam and London. Your job will be to help the team with derivatives execution, exposure management and alpha. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing the execution and trading of all gasoline paper products.
  • Working with the Rotterdam based Manager Regional Trading Gasoline EU to implement optimal trading and execution strategies.
  • Advising global Gasoline team on understanding their exposures and how best to manage them.
  • Liaising with OTC brokers and Exchanges to ensure the best route to market is always obtained.
  • Working closely with Compliance and ensuring the compliance framework is adhered to at all times - with particular attention paid to the appropriate execution of block futures and managing brokers.
  • Providing first class front office controls and timely deal entry.
  • Working with the Deal Structuring team to provide derivatives pricing and promote a customer-centric focus - helping to develop external relationships with Shell customers looking to hedge their gasoline and blendstock related requirements.
  • Provide market-making service to other desks and parts of the organisation looking to manage exposure to gasoline derivatives.
  • Providing significant proprietary P&L to trading book.
  • Being the subject matter expert for all gasoline paper matters - pricing, hedging, exposure and deal entry.
  • Helping to manage position limits relating to gasoline contracts and ensuring that the team are not running unauthorized positions.
  • Assisting in the further development of automation and digitalisation of derivatives execution.
  • The execution of other derivatives contracts and cover for other team members as required.
  • Assisting with the training and mentoring of junior members of the team.

What we need from you

  • Multi-year trading experience is essential.
  • Ability to carry out execution of multiple derivatives contracts in a tight time frame in the most efficient, compliant, and cost-effective way.
  • Proven ability to trade profitably and strategically.
  • Ability to trade within clearly defined risk limits.
  • Origination of independent trade ideas.
  • Provide analysis on paper markets (CoT, OI, CTAs etc) for the global team.
  • Excellent communication & compliance skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The workdays for this role are Monday-Friday and you will be expected to attend the office not less than 4 days per week; the candidate however will also be expected to work outside normal office hours due to the dictates of a global business.
