Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust
Leicester
GBP 30,000 - 50,000
Job description

Are you looking at taking the next step in your career? Do you have a keen interest in all things surgical? Do you want to take a positive step in shaping patient journeys and staff careers? A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join our friendly team. We are looking for someone who is passionate, motivated, enthusiastic, and dynamic.

You will regularly take charge of the unit as an effective leader and role model. You will work flexibly as a member of the team and support the ward sister to ensure that standards are maintained, evaluated, and improved.

You will be effective and involved in helping develop all aspects of the unit in line with the trusts visions and future plans. Full participation in the provisions of policies and procedures, improvements to the patient journey and environment, and the delivery of high-quality clinical care and staff development is expected.

Specialist surgery provides an exciting nursing challenge and we can promise you a varied and in-depth role which will give you an opportunity to broaden and advance your expertise in a busy but supportive environment. You will also have a bespoke clinical skills and management development plan to support your development.

You would be expected to have sound specialty knowledge in burns, plastic reconstructive surgery, ENT, Maxillofacial, and ophthalmology, and experience at a senior band 5 level. You must be flexible and possess excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of evidence-based nursing care to a group of patients.
  2. Leadership and supervision of others carrying out all aspects of the caring process.
  3. Deputising and taking charge of the given area regularly in the absence of the Sister / Charge Nurse who has 24-hour accountability and responsibility.
  4. Actively contributing to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care.
  5. Participating in the effective clinical leadership and management of the team.
  6. Actively contributing to the improvement of services and the quality of care provision to meet the needs of patients, service users, and their families.
  7. Acting as a role model, mentoring, teaching, assessing, and supporting students and learners on placement and participating in the education, development, and mentorship of other staff.

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We Have Four Primary Goals:
  • High-quality care for all,
  • Being a great place to work,
  • Partnerships for impact, and
  • Research and education excellence.

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • We are compassionate,
  • We are proud,
  • We are inclusive, and
  • We are one team.

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
