Job description

Deputy Manager

Location: Islington

Salary: £32,210 per annum

Hours: 35 hours per week, excluding a 30-minute break each day. This post is Monday to Friday.

The organisation's house is a mixed-gender home with an adjacent 6-bed supported accommodation service, supporting and caring for people under the age of 70 who have been diagnosed with a mental illness which is not dementia.

The Role

They have a deputy management position available for their registered care home located in Islington. This position will be available from the 27th of March 2025.

The role involves working alongside the home's manager and another deputy ensuring that the home maintains its rating of CQC good. The deputy will play their part in leading the team to embrace the challenge of supporting people with a complex mental illness, which may be concurrent with non-compliance with treatment, poor social skills and drug and alcohol misuse. Most importantly, the deputy will ensure that the individuals living in the service have experiences that support positive outcomes and facilitate their transition to greater independence.

The House has an established team of key workers, recovery workers, and another deputy manager.

Please note that this role will require some flexibility in hours of working.

Key Responsibilities

The role will require expertise in mental health, and will work within the following areas:

  1. Providing leadership and operational management to frontline staff.
  2. Where the service is registered with CQC the deputy will support the manager to ensure that all CQC regulations are upheld.
  3. Providing clear direction to all staff linked to excellent standards of care and support.
  4. Manage team performance on shift, supervise staff, and demonstrate positive values and support ensuring key targets are met.
  5. Provide a consistent approach to resident support, which is focused on trauma informed and recovery-based approach.
  6. Working in partnership with other agencies and their local communities.
  7. Ensure effective systems to promote both safety and security are deployed.
  8. Demonstrate a positive and objective attitude and behaviours in everyday practice.
  9. Participate in the manager's on-call system to provide the first point of contact for service staff, outside of normal working hours.
Skills and Qualifications
  1. Experience of working in a not-for-profit culture in a health/social care context
  2. Experience of supporting team performance and helping residents with complex mental health needs
  3. Experience of statutory regulation and legislation linked to mental health
  4. Reasonable standard of IT knowledge, Word and PowerPoint, Excel
  5. Experience in governance, safeguarding and evidence based practice
  6. Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English.
  7. Able to use own initiative, skills in problem solving
  8. Ability to multi-task, and manage time effectively.
  9. Ability to communicate and negotiate with colleagues, residents and other professionals.
  10. Aptitude for maintaining positive relationships and building rapport
