The Role

To assist in providing support to the Registered Manager in all aspects of the day-to-day running of the Children's Home and be responsible for the day-to-day management of the home in the Manager's absence.

Promoting a caring environment that provides young people with a high standard of specialised personal care, meeting individual needs and ensuring everyone is treated with respect and dignity, and rights to privacy, independence, and choice are met. To support the Registered Manager to supervise, monitor and evaluate the care delivered to young people; checking legal requirements are met along with keeping up to date with registration requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To undertake shift work and office hours as per staff rota and work as part of a team carrying out Residential Support Worker duties.
  2. To work under the direction of the Registered Manager (RM) and deputise for him/her as and when required, sharing the on-call duties with the RM.
  3. To support the RM with the day-to-day running of all aspects of the home including the standards and quality of care, recruitment and training issues, communication with the team, and the premises of the Care Home and financial matters.
  4. To recognise and assess individuals' needs, involving relevant professional agencies and relatives where needed, in order to formulate personalised care plans for each individual young person.
  5. To provide the highest level of care and attention to young people following individual care plans carefully and ensuring all contact with young people is friendly, warm, and supportive.
  6. Promoting the social and emotional wellbeing and development of young people and to consistently strive to further develop these skills.
  7. Responsible for understanding and complying with statutory and legal requirements relevant throughout the home, including HACCP, COSHH, Health and Safety, and all aspects of the Health and Social Care Act to maintain a safe environment throughout the home.
  8. To support the RM with the effective running of the home ensuring all legislation and regulations concerning environmental health, infection control, planning, and health and safety are met and all risk assessments are regularly carried out (including fire checks) to meet the high standards expected in the Home.
  9. To keep up to date with all related legislation and inspection frameworks and implement as necessary. Contribute to inspections carried out by Ofsted and any external professionals as required.
  10. Follow young people's individual care plans, administer medication to young people as prescribed, and accurately maintain appropriate records for both.
  11. To be an active and encouraging Deputy Manager, establishing and maintaining effective means of communication and good relationships with young people, relatives, and employees in the home along with external professionals.
  12. Support the RM with staffing requirements, including the recruitment of suitable employees for the team working in the home, ensuring effective inductions, identifying and meeting the training needs for all the team, and carrying out regular supervisions and assessments when required.
Skills And Qualifications

  • Level 3 Diploma (QCF) qualified in Children Young People's workforce.
  • Minimum of three years experience.
  • Effective leadership qualities.
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues, outside agencies, children, and families.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and use own initiative when required.
  • Effective listening skills.
  • Reporting and recording to a high standard.
  • Ability to manage staff conflicts in a fair and sensitive manner.
  • Ability to carry out supervision of staff and monitor progress.
  • Ability to monitor staff competence through various means.
  • Ability to deputise in the absence of the registered manager.
  • Ability to attend relevant meetings and act in a professional manner.
