Job description

This role will be based on the university campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

Are you customer focussed and excited about delivering an outstanding service? Do you have extensive experience of working in a busy office environment within a research support or a finance role? Do you want to join a team that is committed to supporting the strategic objectives and research culture of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences?

We are looking for a professional and proactive individual to provide high quality, customer focussed research support to our Faculty Research Office, working closely with the Faculty Research Manager to provide expert knowledge on all matters relating to research grant management, with a focus on setting up new awards and managing finances in line with University and research funder rules and regulations. You will be part of the University's Research Operations service, but will be deployed to the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences and will report to the Faculty Research Manager. You will make a valuable and significant contribution to the team, working closely with both pre and post-award to manage research finances. Through collaboration with colleagues, you will play a key role in the provision of an excellent level of service to academics and senior stakeholders, process reviews and efficiencies, and wider level engagement across the Faculty and University.

You will bring experience of all aspects of research funding from application through to grant closure, underpinned by a demonstrable understanding of financial rules and regulations from a wide range of funders. With extensive administrative experience in a busy, customer focussed environment, you will also have excellent organisation skills and considerable experience of financial systems and procedures, the ability to problem solve and experience of line management.

Equally important are exceptional communication, negotiation, and leadership skills, with a proven ability to harness expertise and deliver results through collaborative working.
