Deputy Directorate Manager- Cardiothoracic

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Deputy Directorate Manager to work in the cardiothoracic department at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

The post holder will have experience of delivering against operational performance targets and will have strong communication, engagement skills and a good level of IT literacy.

We are seeking a proactive individual with excellent leadership skills who has the aptitude to facilitate and effect change. You will contribute to the development of services in the Directorate. The Deputy Directorate Manager will support the Directorate Manager who, in conjunction with the Clinical Director and Matrons, are responsible for the delivery and management of all aspects of the Directorate including performance finance and workforce.

Main duties of the job

The Deputy Directorate Manager will support the Directorate Manager who, in conjunction with the Clinical Director, Matrons and Head of Cardiac Physiology, are responsible for the operational management of services. The post holder will be expected to work across organisational boundaries to make a positive contribution to the Trust's corporate objectives and contribute to shaping the future healthcare across the local economy.

The post holder will provide senior leadership supporting the Directorate to maintain financial balance, the development and implementation of service improvements, and engaging with teams to ensure best quality care is provided.

The post holder will also be responsible for leading and delivering success across a number of key programmes within the Directorate and the wider Division. These programmes will be vital in ensuring the Division can deliver its primary objectives and targets over the coming years and will encompass a wide range of topics, including productivity and efficiency, quality, workforce and clinical effectiveness.

Job responsibilities

The Deputy Directorate Manager will support the Directorate Manager who, in conjunction with the Clinical Director, Matrons and Head of Cardiac Physiology, are responsible for the operational management of services. The post holder will be expected to work across organisational boundaries to make a positive contribution to the Trust's corporate objectives and contribute to shaping the future healthcare across the local economy.

The post holder will provide senior leadership supporting the Directorate to maintain financial balance, the development and implementation of service improvements and engaging with teams to ensure best quality care is provided. The post holder will:

  1. Support the Directorate Manager and the Clinical Director to determine the strategic direction for the Directorates, identifying future resourcing requirements and ensuring that the Directorate meets contractual and other operational requirements.
  2. Ensure the Clinical Directorate delivers on the range of national and locally defined access targets and that patients are able to access services delivered in a timely way.
  3. Support the delivery of financial balance across the Clinical Directorate through active and regular monitoring and management of expenditure.
  4. Monitor and take action to ensure that all quality, productivity and profitability targets are achieved.
  5. In line with Clinical Directorate and Trust strategy, develop best practice, service modernisation and improvement plans for the area, to enhance the patient experience and deliver value for money.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Educated to degree level in relevant field or equivalent level of management experience.
Experience
  • Significant acute operational management experience, in a complex organization.
  • Experience of analysing and interpreting information to identify and manage variances in performance and identifying solutions to deliver improvement.
  • Experience of business planning techniques and managing business processes.
  • Experience of designing/improving business systems and processes.
Knowledge
  • General Management theory and practice, including quality, financial management, HR management and service/business development.
  • Broad understanding of the NHS and key policy issues that affect business performance.
Skills/Personal Qualities
  • First class interpersonal skills with ability to gain and sustain credibility with clinicians/managers.
  • Highly skilled in influencing and persuading others to deliver in the context of organizational operational goals and strategic objectives.

Salary: £53,755 to £60,504 a year pro rata.
