JOB PURPOSE

1. To support the DSL in promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
2. To be available, in the absence of the DSL, for staff to discuss any safeguarding concerns during term time and to support the arrangement of adequate and appropriate cover for out of hours/out of term time activities.
3. Support the DSL to address all identified training needs relating to safeguarding.
4. In agreement with the Headteacher, to deputise in the absence of the DSL.
5. The ability to support students and young people to achieve their potential by providing behaviour and pastoral support in line with their safeguarding needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

To support the DSL in Managing Referrals by:

1. Referring all cases of suspected abuse of any pupil at the school to the Local Authority children's social care, ensuring that a response is received and recorded.
2. Ensuring teachers fulfil their statutory duties of referring all confirmed cases of female genital mutilation performed on a pupil to the police, as per legal requirements, and keeping records of these referrals and subsequent actions.
3. Supporting other staff who have made referrals to Local Authority children's social care.

Support the DSL by Raising Awareness

1. In liaison with the LGB, ensure the school's safeguarding/child protection policy and its implementation is reviewed at least annually, is up to date, and is in line with the Trust's policy.
2. Ensure the safeguarding/child protection policy and any other statutory documents are available publicly, and are confirmed to be read and understood by all staff.
3. Ensure that parents are aware that referrals about suspected abuse or neglect may be made to children's social care, and the school's role in this.

Behaviour and Pastoral Support in line with safeguarding needs

1. To assist in the identification of those students who would benefit most from intervention and, working with others, design and implement a pastoral plan for individual students.
2. To develop a 1:1 mentoring relationship with students needing particular support where necessary aimed at achieving the goals defined in the pastoral plan.
3. To maintain regular contact with families/carers of students in need of extra support, to keep them informed of the student's needs and progress, and to secure positive family support and involvement.

1. Promote and safeguard the welfare of students and young persons you are responsible for or come into contact with.
2. Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
3. Be aware of, support and ensure equal opportunities for all.
4. Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the academy.
5. Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
6. Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
7. Assist with student needs as appropriate during the academy day.
8. To do tasks as instructed by line manager and colleagues.
