Job Summary

A vacancy has arisen for a Band 6 Senior Dental Radiographer to work cross-site at the King's College Dental Hospital and Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup. You will be working in the Dental X-ray department, being part of a multi-disciplinary group of friendly colleagues. Previous dental x-ray experience would be highly desirable. This is an opportunity to bring your experience as a Band 5 Radiographer to the fore. You will have at least two years' experience as a Band 5 Radiographer working in the UK, ensuring that you will be ready to take on further clinical responsibilities. The department has 3 Cone Beam CT scanners and multiple satellite units, across both King's and Queen Mary's sites, which you will rotate across.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Carry out radiographic duties specific to Dental Radiography and produce high quality radiographs.
  • Interpret health service policy: Ionizing Radiation (Medical Examination) Regulations 2017 as defined in the department protocol.
  • Assist with the training and supervision of junior staff and all students on placement within the department.
  • Comply with all Ionizing Radiation regulations, Health & Safety policy, Dental Hospital Infection Control policy and the Local Rules for radiation protection.
  • Assist in the co-ordination and smooth running of the Department.
  • Be accountable for own decisions made and care provided to patients.
  • Be aware of personal limitations in knowledge and practice and seek appropriate advice from senior colleagues.
  • To have flexibility regarding working hours and responsibilities commensurate with a senior role.
  • Monitor effectiveness of own clinical practice through audit and peer review.
  • Participate in continuing professional development opportunities to ensure that up-to-date evidence-based knowledge and competence in aspects of the role is maintained.

Job Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will be expected to use their initiative, work autonomously, supervise and teach students, as well as prioritise their workloads.
  • Help with organising the day-to-day workload.
    • Perform and maintain high standards of clinical practice & radiographic standards completion of competencies.
    • Undertake Cone Beam Computerized Tomography (CBCT) scanning.
    • Able to interpret resultant CBCT images, within your scope of practice.
    • Maintain a high standard of patient care and ensure that all precautions are taken to prevent the occurrence of accidents to patients, visitors and other members of staff.
    • Utilize imaging protocols correctly as defined in the Department Protocol.
    • Use the X-ray equipment and accessories correctly and keep them clean.
    • Report any faults or unsafe conditions of any item of equipment to the Clinical Specialist/Manager, following local department policies.
    • Be an active participant in recognising your challenges, not relying on others to raise your awareness.
    • Instruct staff and students in the safe and effective use of all equipment and techniques.
    • Recognise errors and how to resolve them either clinical or equipment.
    • Recognise that learning is via various methods e.g. documentation, verbal, visual etc.
    • Be aware of own radiographic experience within the dental radiography modality. Recognise that although a qualified radiographer, your previous experience may have little to do, specifically with dental radiography, nonetheless you will be expected to learn, thus forming a foundation on which to develop.
    • Maintain effective relationships with all staff, within the Dental Institute, Queen Marys Hospital, Sidcup and across the KCH campus.
    • Ensure that complaints and queries are promptly and sympathetically dealt with and reported to the Clinical Specialist/Manager.
    • Attend on duty promptly and correctly dressed.

    Person Specification

    Essential

    • BSc Radiography or Diploma of College of Radiographers (or equivalent) Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration.
    • Extensive post-registration UK experience.
    • Able to work well and consistently, when under pressure.
    • Effective communicator and interpersonal skills.
