We are looking for someone to join the team at our Harleigh Road Dental Centre with occasional travel to Newquay to provide cover.

You will provide a reliable, efficient, and timely front of house service to ensure Smile Together exceeds patient expectations at every visit and provides a first-class patient experience.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive package £26,500-£29,500 p/a* This is dependent on Additional Qualifications.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary:

To ensure the efficient day-to-day running of the dental practice and to work closely with the whole team to ensure that Smile Together provides timely, accessible, quality dental care to its patients.

When dental nursing, the post holder will be expected to deliver a high standard of clinical support to our dentists and therapists and play an integral role in the company as a whole.

The post holder will be required to provide a reliable, efficient and timely front of house service to ensure Smile Together exceeds patient expectations at every visit and provides a first-class patient experience.

Travel to provide cover at other clinical locations within Smile Together will be required on occasions.

Key accountabilities:

  1. Assist the dentist during clinical procedures and make independent judgments with regard to equipment, instruments and materials.
  2. Provide comprehensive reception cover when required including answering the telephone, booking appointments and welcoming patients to the practice ensuring accurate inputting of data into the practice system and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
  3. Recognise and demonstrate understanding of the different journey a patient will experience depending on their treatment needs and the service being provided to them.
  4. Assist in the provision of a mentoring programme to support Foundation Dental Nurses to expand their clinical skills.
  5. Participate in the selection, interview and onboarding of Trainee Dental Nurses.
  6. Recognise and assist with any medical emergencies.
  7. Provide clinical support for clinicians within a surgery setting, and give appropriate pre-treatment and post-treatment advice to patients.
  8. Ensure high standards of patient care are maintained at all times.
  9. Provide support and reassurance to patients undergoing dental procedures.
  10. Monitor and maintain stock control with due regard to efficient use of resources.
  11. Accurately record patient data, filing and archiving patient records.
  12. A working knowledge of HTM 01-05 document and Infection Control procedures.
  13. Actively engage with Smile Together teams and participate in audit activities, planning and development sessions, and in-house meetings etc.
  14. Be responsible for safe working and practice on a day-to-day basis in sites of clinical activity, ensuring compliance with clinical governance and legislation, appropriate health, safety and security procedures within the work area, and reporting accidents, incidents and near misses using the Smile Together incident reporting procedure.
  15. Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the Practice Managers and Smile Together Management Team.
  16. Hold full GDC registration without conditions.
  17. Play a valuable part in contributing to the success of the organisation.
  18. Be an ambassador for the company's vision, mission and values and demonstrate related behaviours.
  19. To professionally represent Smile Together as an ambassador for the company in this role, leading by example.
  20. Maintain and develop your clinical competency and continuing professional/personal development according to agreed training needs via our Smile Together Training Academy and Perform (appraisal and review system).
  21. Work alongside clinical and professional support colleagues in service improvement and facilitate ongoing organisational change and development.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • NEBDN National Certificate in Dental Nursing, NVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing (DN) or equivalent.
  • Full registration with the General Dental Council.

Experience

  • Competency in the common aspects of dental nursing and experience of a wide range of dental procedures acquired through training and clinical experience.
  • Trained to recognise and respond to medical emergencies (i.e. Immediate Life Support Techniques).
  • Experience of mentoring newly qualified Dental Nurses and/or student Dental Nurses.
  • Experience in the recruitment of Dental Nurses.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£26,500 to £29,500 a year. This is dependent on Additional Qualifications.
