Job overview

An exciting and challenging opportunity is available to join the Estates and Facilities Directorate as a Decontamination (Endoscopy Reprocessing Unit) Operations Manager, reporting in to the Decontamination (ERU and Clinical Sterile Stores Dept.) Lead. Managing the workflow, resources and operational delivery of this busy department, you will lead an in-house team across several locations to deliver a first class, cost effective ERU service, compliant with HTM 01-06 and externally audited for national accreditation.

The successful candidate will have in depth knowledge of endoscopy decontamination services, will understand and be able to demonstrate strong departmental management of both operational processes and day-to-day people management.

While steadfastly patient focussed, budget management to deliver value for money including revenue generating services, regulatory compliance, positive service user experience and internal stakeholder engagement will also be key success factors in this role.

The Trust operates across three major sites in West London; the role is site based and you will be expected to travel between sites as required. Occasional remote working may be accommodated by agreement.

Main duties of the job

Manages the operational aspects of people, processes and performance of the ERU Decontamination Service. Manages the planning and prioritization of the work associated with their team and organises all activities in order to achieve a cost effective, productive, high quality service. Provides cross site support to enable co-operation within and amongst teams.

Person specification

  • HTM 01-06 certificates.
  • Diploma in Management or Healthcare related subject
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent training and/or experience
  • Masters (or studying towards) in relevant subject
  • Quality Management System audit certificate.

Experience

  • Highly specialised decontamination knowledge acquired through ongoing specialist training or experience
  • Managing qualified and unqualified staff
  • Staff management including objective setting and appraisal, performance review & people development
  • Extensive current knowledge of Legislation, Standards, Guidance and practices related to decontamination of medical devices.
  • 3 years minimum Postgraduate scientific knowledge within the Decontamination environment

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

  • Ability to prioritise and delegate tasks appropriately
  • Understands and is able to participate in the planning of both day-to-day and longer-term procedures and processes and trouble shooting.
  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team.
  • Lead by example
  • Knowledge of and practical application of quality systems, consistent with the requirements of the Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC
