Senior Database Developer - Move into Management - Remote (travel once/quarter) - To £75k

Are you a strong developer with a knack for database design, optimisation, and data migration? Do you want to move into a role which will involve coaching a team while driving high standards for performance, security, and availability? If so, this role could be your next big move!

Our client, a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation, is looking for an exceptional Database Developer to join them and look to take charge of their SQL and Postgres environments. This hybrid role offers a mix of remote flexibility and in-office collaboration.

What You'll Be Doing:

As the Database Team Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring our client's database systems meet the high standards their customers expect.


  1. Lead, coach, and develop a team of skilled database administrators, supporting their growth and professional development.
  2. Oversee the design, maintenance, and optimisation of SQL and Postgres database systems for maximum performance, availability, and security.
  3. Establish and implement best practices for data integrity and confidentiality, ensuring compliance with ISO9001 standards.
  4. Collaborate with development teams to fine-tune database queries and schema designs, driving innovation and efficiency.
  5. Monitor and troubleshoot database performance, addressing issues to ensure reliability.
  6. Stay ahead of the curve by evaluating emerging database technologies and recommending improvements.
  7. Lead database migration and version upgrade projects with confidence and precision.
  8. Deliver insightful reports on database performance, trends, and enhancements.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone with:


  1. Significant experience in Postgres and SQL database administration, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  2. Proven success in database migrations and upgrades.
  3. Mentoring experience - you will have acted as a mentor or lead before.
  4. Familiarity with both Linux and Microsoft operating systems.
  5. A solid understanding of database performance tuning, query optimisation, and indexing.
  6. Agile and Prince 2 experience (essential).
  7. Certifications in Microsoft SQL or PostgreSQL (a plus).
  8. A problem-solving mindset and the ability to thrive under pressure.
