Database Administrator/Engineer (Outside IR35)

6-month Contract

£300 - £400pd DOE (Limited/Umbrella)

Milton Keynes

Hybrid Remote - 3 days in office

Immediately available

SC Clearance required due to the nature of the role

Key Accountabilities:

  • Carry out routine configuration, installation and reconfiguration of database and related products to optimize performance and implement change.
  • Build and troubleshoot infrastructure solutions using architect's drawings, diagrams and/or data flows.
  • Identify and take ownership of technical problems and incidents; manage, coordinate and prioritise tasks to resolve technical incidents as quickly as possible.
  • Identify and investigate repeat issues and faults; initiate and monitor actions to investigate patterns and trends, consulting specialists where required; determine the appropriate remedy and preventative measures; assist with their implementation.
  • Develop and document change requests to improve control/reduce risk to security performance and availability; analyze and assess impact of change requests.
  • Create Technical and Functional Documentation and ensure that it is reviewed and maintained accurately.

Essential Experience:

  • Understanding of MS SQL Server best practices.
  • Database Maintenance (Install/Configure/Maintain SQL Servers); knowledge of Ola Hallengren maintenance solution preferred.
  • Always On/High availability knowledge, replication.
  • Backup/Restores of SQL Server.
  • Understanding of database roles and permissions as well as data security; moving to an RBAC model like we have for AD for SQL.
  • SSRS reporting; work in conjunction with other teams to get customized reporting for the business.
  • Familiarity with other databases such as Postgres, MariaDB.
  • Azure Capability/AWS Working knowledge.
  • Substantial experience in relevant roles, including technologies in an enterprise environment, and of working within a secure environment, e.g., MOD; CAB Office, Home Office.
  • Experience in a high-pressured, fast-paced team.
  • Knowledge of ITIL working practices, Incident Management, Problem Management.
  • Change and release management.
