Job description

Time4Learning is looking for a Senior Database Administrator to be responsible for providing database support and strategy for our database ecosystem. Database administration includes production support, upgrades, performance tuning, disaster recovery as well as helping set and enforce db level controls and standards for the applications team. This leader will need to be hands-on and will often collaborate with the engineering teams offering guidance.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Replication configuration and management
  2. SQL query plan analysis and optimization
  3. Backup and restoration management
  4. Enhances the effectiveness of database tools and services
  5. Enhances the scalability and performance of existing database structures
  6. Work with software engineers to maintain and monitor backup processes and test restorations including disaster recovery
  7. Work with the software engineers and other internal teams (e.g. developers and product managers) to identify system requirements
  8. Monitor system performance and alerts to identify current and future problems
  9. Ethical handling of private data
  10. Minimize database downtime and maximize database reliability
  11. Predict capacity requirements
  12. Reports to the Director of Software Engineering
  13. Help review requirements, specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback
  14. Keeps up to date with technological developments

Job Requirements:

  1. 5+ years experience with engineering and/or administering databases
  2. Hands on, professional experience building and operating performance critical applications and databases in Microsoft Azure
  3. MS SQL is required and MySQL is a plus
  4. Exceptional knowledge of relational databases including normalization, indexing and SQL
  5. Understanding of SaaS and cloud delivery
  6. Knowledge of data security and integrity
  7. Knowledge of scripting languages, a plus
  8. Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process, a plus
  9. Experience with NoSQL databases a plus
  10. DevOps experience is a plus
  11. Knowledge of a high volume SaaS db environment
  12. Exceptional communications skills (verbal, written, illustrative/diagrammatic)
  13. Ability to build excellent relationships across the Development organization
