Ever wanted the time and space to play a key role in improving a service? This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic midwife with knowledge of all areas of clinical maternity to join our wonderful digital maternity team and give hands-on support in training clinical staff to better use current and new digital systems. The postholder will provide leadership and guidance in the maternity digital transformation program with senior leaders, midwives, obstetricians, anesthetists, clinical support staff and administrative staff to guide the multidisciplinary team to best use of our digital systems and deliver accurate, quality data.

The post-holder will be expected to deliver ad hoc, individualised support to staff where required to ensure the accuracy of information recorded on digital systems, such as Careflow Maternity and Grow 2.0. Support and leadership will also be required on the roll out of a full training package for all maternity in the roll out of Badgernet Maternity EPR in 2025.

Main duties of the job

The Data Quality Midwife will be expected to be a role model for Trust Values and the maternity digital transformation programme and a resource for information from the multi-disciplinary team, while maintaining business as usual. They will be a strong team player, working collaboratively with other digital leads within the trust and the Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems (LMNS). Furthermore, the role will include the submission of reports and collaboration on an internal dashboard which ensures accurate and up to date information on display and available to the rest of the Trust, and with regular reports to be submitted to the LMNS.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, expert advice and be an effective ambassador on the maternity digital agenda for the Trust.
  • Support and offer leadership in the roll out of the new maternity EPR for all maternity staff and service users.
  • Work under the leadership of the Digital Lead Midwife in the building and maintenance of the new system in its clinical effectiveness and in the implementation across maternity.
  • Provide both scheduled and ad hoc training to staff, with an ability to identify individual training needs.
  • Support with digital maternity policies and collaborate on the formulation and implementation of SOPs where required.
  • Provide sound clinical advice and guidance, working collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical leaders and key stakeholders to ensure the appropriate, consistent and successful use of integrated knowledge and information systems.
  • Represent the Trust at networks, conferences and other meetings regarding Trust developments and play an active role in sharing progress and learning with others.
  • Ensure that the maternity digital program is fully integrated with all relevant Trust programmes and initiatives.
  • Review current and future clinical information requirements to identify, initiate and co- ordinate appropriate digital improvement project proposals.
  • Play a key role in coordinating and addressing data quality issues, provision of data analysis and in problem-solving these issues at a hands on, clinical level.
  • As an ambassador of the Midwifery profession, will ensure clinical practice, supported by digital technology, meets professional standards.
  • Maintain competencies relating to digital leadership by attending regular updates such as local user group initiatives and the national Digital Midwives Expert Reference Group.
  • Provide professional leadership including motivation of all staff groups regarding the use of digital technology.
  • Maintain a high profile in the clinical area and be accessible to all staff.
  • Ensure effective communication channels exist between users of the system, those supporting it and senior managers.
  • Ensure Service User engagement during the development and implementation and review of the maternity digital technology
  • Understand and act as a champion for the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and Information Governance.
  • Investigate clinical incident reports, complaints and concerns relating to and in association with the maternity IT system.
  • Responsible for the sustainability of the system and interfaces including support and identify any redesign/development work required to maximise the functionality of the maternity IT system.
  • Provide independent assurance that digital solutions and associated standard operating procedures are safe when in use in clinical operations
  • Undertake spot checks to monitor staff compliance with policies, procedures and standards providing reports to senior nurse managers, as and when appropriate.
  • To troubleshoot issues of system, use within skills and feedback to Informatics as required across a wide variety of departments.
  • To evaluate and test IT systems as they develop and impact on clinical areas in support of digital clinical safety.
  • Testing of functionality, manipulation of data and production of reports and recommendations for improvement as appropriate.

After several years of ever closer working, North Mid and Royal Free London are planning to come together as one organisation to enable them to go further and faster in improving services for patients and the health of the local community than they can achieve separately. The merger of North Mid into the RFL group is currently expected to take place on 1 January 2025, subject to NHS England and Secretary of State approval.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications

  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of continued professional/personal development.
  • Evidence of further professional development and training.

Knowledge

  • Up to date and evidence based knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
  • Understanding of the importance of high quality data
  • Good technical knowledge of IT systems.
  • Confidence and problem-solving skills relating to IT system

Skills, abilities and experience

  • Experience of working at a Band 6 level (minimum 2 years).
  • Problem solving and analytical skills relating to the identification and assessment of evidence required to support decision making.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to teach and assess.
  • Previous experience of working in all care settings (acute and primary care).
  • Advanced level skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
