Overall purpose of the job

Charles Taylor is looking for a Data Protection Specialist to join its central Assurance function for a period of at least 6 months. This is a great opportunity to join the 2nd Line of Defence Function. The role will report to the Group Data Protection Officer and sits within the Group’s Assurance function with responsibility for Data Privacy, compliance and associated risk management.

The main areas of focus include project planning and the implementation of new data protection and privacy compliance and risk frameworks, support the development of the data privacy controls framework, delivery of focused risk and compliance matters and data protection assurance related training and communications.

This role offers a wide variety of interesting and challenging work, working as part of a strong team in support of Charles Taylor’s global business that have ambitious growth plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development and maintenance of a risk and controls culture across Charles Taylor.
  • Champion Privacy Risk Management across the business units.
  • Monitor and support all functions and business units with the compliance framework.
  • Support the Group DPO in reviewing, evaluating, and documenting data protection controls across multiple jurisdictions, which will include assessing the adequacy of documentation of those controls to meet regulatory requirements and meeting control owners.
  • Ensure best practice guidelines are in place for compliance in respect of legal and regulatory requirements, statutory audit recommendations and other areas of compliance.
  • Assist in devising and delivering new policies where necessary which are in line with compliance guidelines and aligned to the assurance focus of greater commercial awareness and simplicity.
  • Manage certain compliance, risk and insurance activities including policy approvals, oversight of regulatory diaries, data protection and other regulatory matters as required to service the needs of the business units.
  • Support in the collation and analysis of key information on data breaches and incidents reported across the business, identifying key trends, and producing lessons learned for continuous improvement.
  • Support the Group DPO in devising training which is responsive to the requirements of the business units and GBS taking account of the services the business units deliver and ensuring the training is relevant.
  • Assist the business units and GBS functions in their completion of monthly Assurance Compliance and Data Governance reports as required.
  • Assist in the collation and analysis of Compliance, Risk and Information Security reporting to the Group Head of Legal and other key stakeholders.
  • Support in designing and maintaining a consistent answer library for data protection and privacy related responses to Requests For Information, bid content, customer questionnaires etc.
  • Support the Group DPO in maintaining and updating a consistent answer library for data protection and data privacy responses to queries raised by internal clients.
  • Support the Group DPO in maintaining and updating a consistent answer library for data privacy responses to data subjects when exercising their rights under the applicable laws.
  • Review notifications of data breach and investigate, notify clients within contractually agreed timescales and assist the Group DPO in managing any required notification to the ICO or data subjects.
  • Draft responses to complex DSARs and supervise the drafting of responses to simple DSARs (and other data subject rights).
  • Assist with the development and global delivery of data protection compliance, and group-wide training programmes for all employees aligned to the roll out of the new risk framework.
  • Assist in the collation and reporting of training statistics for worldwide data protection / privacy training, and providing reports to each business unit and GBS function on monthly basis, and to suppliers where applicable.
  • Support business units with their operational and risk reporting as required.
  • Carry out horizon scanning in relation to compliance and regulatory changes and updating any changes in regulatory guidance to the business.
  • Support the data protection due diligence and compliance requirements of the M&A activities across the business.
