DATA PLATFORM ENGINEER - Any UK Office
Role Overview
We are looking for a Data Platform Engineer to join our Data Management team. You will be responsible for supporting the implementation, administration, and ongoing maintenance of data platforms in the cloud and on-premises.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Senior Data Platform Engineer and the Datacentre Transformation Project team in the implementation of a successful transition of the firm’s on-premises infrastructure to the Cloud.
- Ensure that databases meet performance, scalability, and availability requirements.
- Implement solutions and infrastructure with appropriate levels of security and encryption.
- Implement an effective backup and recovery strategy under guidance of Senior Data Platform Engineer.
- Maintain adequate and up-to-date documentation on the firm’s data infrastructure and platforms.
- Ensure that backups are tested on a regular basis and that any failures are investigated and resolved.
- Ensure that SQL and related servers are patched and maintained while minimising downtime.
- Propose opportunities and strategies for automation and process improvement and take part in their implementation.
- Implement and monitor processes to meet data archiving and retention requirements.
- Implement high-availability solutions to computing infrastructure under the guidance of the Senior Data Platform Engineer.
- Conduct regular security assessments to identify and address potential vulnerabilities in data infrastructure and platforms.
- Optimise the use of hardware and software SQL instances to streamline resource utilisation.
- Carry out performance monitoring and tuning of SQL instances and cloud-based database platforms, and implement measures to improve performance and reduce costs.
- Stay current with emerging database technologies and be aware of their potential impact on the firm’s data platforms.
- Provide support and guidance to business users and IT teams on the use of data platform technologies.
- Follow processes and protocols for the protection of the firm’s data and systems.
Candidate Overview
The ideal candidate will be adaptable to change and ready to embrace complexity and new challenges with enthusiasm and determination. They will value diverse ideas and partner effectively with colleagues across the globe, and have an eagerness to learn and develop new skills. As well as this, they will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Degree level candidate in computer science, systems analysis, mathematics, or a related field of study, or equivalent experience.
- Good experience with SQL server and related technologies (T-SQL, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS).
- Experience with cloud platforms, specifically Microsoft Azure, and related services (Azure SQL database, Azure Data Factory, Azure Backup).
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience with troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of database design, performance optimisation, and troubleshooting.
- Good understanding of security and compliance principles as they relate to data infrastructures and the management of data.
- Great communication and interpersonal skills to work with a variety of stakeholders.
