Understanding Solutions on behalf of our client, a leading UK retailer, is seeking a Contract Data Engineer to join our project team. You will be working on a critical project to enhance our client's customer segmentation and personalisation capabilities. We are improving our client's customer segmentation and personalisation capabilities through their customer data platform (CDP) by seamlessly integrating data from various sources, including point-of-sale systems, online transactions, and customer interactions.

About the Role

As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and managing robust data pipelines to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources into our data warehouse. You will work closely with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to ensure data quality, accuracy, and accessibility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines using tools such as Apache Airflow, Apache Spark, and Python.
• Build and optimise data warehouses and data lakes on AWS (Azure also considered).
• Design and implement data models to support business intelligence and analytics.
• Ensure data quality and integrity through rigorous testing and monitoring.
• Collaborate with internal data scientists to prepare data for machine learning models.
• Optimise data processing and storage costs.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python programming languages.
• Experience with data engineering tools and technologies such as Apache Airflow, Apache Spark, and cloud platforms (AWS or Azure).
• Knowledge of data warehousing and modeling concepts.
• Experience with ETL/ELT processes.
• Experience in delivering end-to-end solutions
• Retail industry experience is preferred.
