Job description

The primary purpose of this role is to lead the Thames Water Data Acquisition team. The Data Acquisition team is the gateway between Thames Water application sources and the central Enterprise Data platform. The team are expected to follow the standard acquisition processes to create connections to various data sources and acquire the data and bring it to the TW data lake.

The duties include designing and implementing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, ensuring data quality and accuracy, and maintaining data engineering architecture. Occasional analysis of data to derive business insights and communication of these findings to stakeholders, aiding in data-driven decision-making. Additionally, you will mentor team members and support analytics through reliable data pipelines.

What you’ll be doing as a Data Acquisition Lead

  1. Managing c6x data engineers and data business analysts to deliver data backlog items.
  2. Managing the investigation of corporate data requirements and documenting them according to the required standards utilising the prescribed methods and tools.
  3. Implement data flows to connect operational systems, data for analytics and BI systems.
  4. Work closely with data architects and data scientists to determine which data are needed for analysis.
  5. Tackle problems associated with database integration and unstructured data sets.
  6. Ensure that those using the data structures and associated components have a good understanding and that any queries are dealt with promptly and efficiently.
  7. Develop data set processes for data modelling, mining and production.
  8. In liaison with the information management or IT management functions, contribute to the development and maintenance of corporate data standards.
Base location – Hybrid – Clear Water Court Reading
Working pattern – Monday to Friday 36 hours

What you should bring to the role
  1. Extensive experience as a Data Engineer.
  2. Azure Data Factory expert.
  3. Azure DevOps experience.
  4. Excellent SQL and/or Python skills.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills and fully experienced at dealing with stakeholders.
  6. Awareness of the uses of information systems in the utility industry.
  7. Proficient with Data Warehousing Solutions and Data Modelling.
