A great full-time opportunity for an enthusiastic Junior Rights Agent to join our dynamic literary agency in Fulham, London, to work on our international rights and sell some of the world's bestselling fiction authors globally.

This role would suit a proactive Rights Assistant or Executive, or someone who has worked in scouting or similar, with a good understanding and knowledge of international rights, and with some experience in working with overseas publishers or co-agents.

The role will involve and won't be limited to:

  1. Client care and promotion in an extremely professional, confident, and discreet manner.
  2. Liaising regularly with clients, international publishers, co-agents, and literary scouts; managing authors' publication in the assigned markets, contracts and payments in assigned territories; sending out press material and updates, coordinating publicity trips abroad for clients, preparing schedules and right lists for international book fairs.
  3. Negotiating deals directly with publishers and with co-agent(s) in assigned territories.
  4. Evaluating manuscripts and developing submission strategies for assigned markets.
  5. Attending events and representing the Agency and authors at book fairs (particularly London and Frankfurt) and book launches as well as other industry events.
  6. Creating, updating, and managing submissions; building and maintaining market awareness in assigned territories; ad hoc research projects; creating and updating pitch materials; keeping records of interest and submissions; dealing with day-to-day rights queries; maintaining our rights management database (Bradbury Philips).
  7. With the support of our Rights Assistant, raising and tracking contracts from deal to countersignature; dealing with rights renewal/reversion; processing agreements and clients' tax forms; checking/processing foreign royalty statements; invoicing and tracking payments.

The ideal candidate:

  1. Will be an avid reader of commercial fiction including crime, thrillers, and popular fiction.
  2. Will love the world of international publishing and rights selling.
  3. Will be good at multi-tasking, using their own initiative, and working under time pressure.
  4. Will have an interest in and knowledge of publishing trends here and in overseas markets.
  5. Will enjoy meeting people and be able to confidently and swiftly develop a rapport with our authors and publishers, while also building new relationships and networks.
  6. Will be proactive and organised, flexible and practical.
  7. Will be able to communicate confidently at all levels, both in writing and verbally.
  8. Will be able to work autonomously and in a small team environment.

Experience/skills required:

  1. At least 18 months relevant experience working in Rights or book sales.
  2. Fluency in English and excellent writing and communication skills. Knowledge of other languages is a plus.
  3. Confidence working with numbers.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  5. Experience with Bradbury Philips is desirable but not essential. We are a close, supportive team and necessary training will be provided if required.

Markets will be assigned according to experience and will include working directly in Turkey and the Arabic-speaking world and with co-agents in Greece, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia among others.

This is a chance for an outgoing, self-motivated, and highly organized individual with some relevant publishing experience and a genuine passion for and interest in translation rights and commercial fiction to be a key player at this dynamic and hugely successful literary agency.

The role can be fulfilled full-time in the office or three days in the office and two days remotely.

Salary will start at £25,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
