The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Metcalfe Farms as a Dairy Operative / Milker. This is a vital role in the daily operations of a dairy farm. Your primary responsibility will be to milk cows efficiently and humanely while ensuring their health and well-being. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a farm environment. All job training will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is eager to learn and develop a career in Dairy Farming. This role is a full-time position.

Key aspects of the role include:
  1. Perform milking duties using appropriate equipment and techniques to ensure high-quality milk production.
  2. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the milking area and equipment.
  3. Monitor the health of the animals during milking and report any concerns to the dairy manager.
  4. Moving cows to the milking parlour & cleaning of cow beds.
  5. Use of machinery to bed cow cubicles & scraping of yard/passageways.
  6. Assist with general care of the livestock outside of milking hours.
  7. Operate milking machinery and other farm equipment as needed.
  8. Engage in basic maintenance tasks such as cleaning equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
Skills
  1. Basic skills to monitor herd information on computers during milking.
  2. Ability to perform daily tasks related to animal care and equipment handling.
  3. Performing duties to a high standard & maintaining them.
  4. Experience or knowledge in animal care practices is an advantage.
  5. Punctuality and reliability is important.
