The post-holder will play a key role in ensuring that the Trust provides high quality, person-focused care, using current evidence-based practice. They will also provide support, expert guidance, and education to people living with diabetes, their carers/families, and healthcare professionals involved in caring for adults with Cystic Fibrosis diabetes (CFD). Full training will be provided to a suitable candidate.
The post-holder will be the Clinical Nurse Specialist for Cystic Fibrosis related Diabetes and must have a strong teamwork ethos. They will be required to work autonomously and manage their own caseload, run nurse-led clinics, and support other healthcare professionals in specialist MDT clinics to meet the often complex healthcare needs of people living with CF diabetes.
The North West Midlands Cystic Fibrosis Centre is based at The Royal Stoke Hospital, providing care for adults with CF across North and South Staffordshire, Burton, Shropshire, and Wolverhampton. The post will primarily be based at the University Hospital of North Midlands, but will also be required to support clinics at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the identification of the diabetes health care needs of the local health economy and work towards promoting and improving diabetes care both in the acute hospital setting and the wider community.
Other responsibilities include auditing of the care provided, a review of service provision to ensure continued improvement and high standards of care, and active participation in research within the field.
