Job description

About the role: As one of our Installation Specialists based in one of our Customer Delivery Hubs, you'll have the unique opportunity to bring our distinctive John Lewis service right to our customers' doors and install the products they love into their homes (such as furniture, kitchen appliances, sound systems, and TV sets) as part of a two-person delivery crew.

You are invited to apply for one of our Driver Installer roles available at our Killingworth Customer Delivery Hub! At a glance:

  2. Position: Permanent
  3. Location: Killingworth CDH (Newcastle upon Tyne)
  4. Salary: Please note the expected starting rates for a Customer Delivery Hub, Installer Trainee will be £29,000 (Annual) & Installer will be £29,000 (Annual)

Please note: Due to the nature of these roles, we require all applicants to be over 18 to apply.

Complete the 3 month Customer Delivery Installer Trainee programme to become a fully qualified John Lewis Customer Delivery Installer.

Being an ambassador for the John Lewis brand with great customer service is your number one priority.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Loading up your lorry with the day's deliveries working alongside the warehouse team.
  2. Showing great respect and courtesy for the customer's home and handling unexpected situations to find the best possible solution for your customers.
  3. Installing products efficiently and quickly for our customers and demonstrating how they work once installed.
  4. Keeping up to date with new products and technologies to ensure you perform your role at your best.
  5. Maintaining a safe working environment.

Please note this role involves heavy lifting: You will spend a lot of time delivering large items such as sofas, white goods, sports equipment, furniture, beds, and mattresses.

Essential skills/experience you'll need as a CDH Driver Installer:

  1. Manual C1 UK driving licence (with a maximum of 6 points)
  2. DCPC (Drivers Qualification Card) by the first day in role and Tachograph Card.
  3. Previous experience driving a 7.5-tonne vehicle.
  4. Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
  5. Great verbal communication skills both over the phone and face-to-face.
  6. Good understanding of technology.

Desirable skills/experience you can bring to the Installer role:

  1. Experience of home delivery and installation of electrical and furniture products.
  2. Installation and disconnection of white goods.
  3. Assembly of flat pack.

It’s important to note that some of our roles are subject to pre-employment vetting (which may include DBS checks for successful candidates). Any DBS checks required will be carried out by a third-party registered body and financial probity checks may also be required for some of our roles.
