A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CULTURAL EVENTS SUPERVISOR

As a Cultural Events Supervisor, you are responsible for overseeing and supervising the Cultural Arts Event/Festival staff. Your work typically involves facilitating the projects and programs related to arts and culture; assist in the operations of the department events and festivals. Participating in presentations, supervising the work of others, and serving as lead worker providing direction to others generally fill up your day. Your job is essential to the city, and you develop a strategic marketing plan to promote Cultural Arts events, festivals, and programs. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include attending community organization events to promote the City's cultural programs.

When you aren't assisting with Cultural Arts Events, you generally help maintain the budget and bring in anticipated revenues through solicitation and assistance in grants or other fund generating ventures. You also ensure to gather monthly statistics for long-range planning. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with skills in customer service, budgeting, and you find genuine enjoyment in what you do!

Qualifications For a Cultural Events Supervisor

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
    • Preferred: Master's Degree in Fine Arts, Public Administration or related field with knowledge of event and project management.
    • Educational Substitute: Six (6) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the above requirements
  • Three (3) years of professional level experience with the preparation of state and federal grants
    • Preferred: Five (5) years of professional level experience with the preparation of state and federal grants
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience
  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Must have a current and valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety
