Morgan Stanley Investment Research is uniquely committed to being an essential part of our clients' investment process. We strive to be the sell-side research provider that best understands the buy side. Through relevant and timely conversations with leading investors, we focus resources on risk-reward essentials: identifying the investor debates, assessing the potential outcomes, and uncovering the evidence our clients need to validate their investment decisions. Our equity analysts cover some 2,900 stocks; our economists, strategists and fixed income analysts cover all major regions and other asset classes around the globe.

The firm is searching for an Analyst/Associate to join our U.S. Sector Corporate Credit Research team within Fixed Income Research. A new team member would be part of the US Sector Corporate Credit Research team, assisting in covering the Consumer Retail sector.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Follow industry developments, competitive dynamics, and financial trends through earnings reports and industry conferences, and analyze implications.
  2. Create and maintain credit models including analysis of financials, capital and organizational structures.
  3. Publish thought-leading research, from short reaction notes to deep dives.
  4. Collaborate with Equity Research teams and broader Fixed Income Research.
  5. Provide insights to institutional investor clients, as well as Morgan Stanley IG, HY, Equity and Wealth mgmt sales forces.
  6. Maintain dialogue with internal trading teams around breaking news and market moves.
  7. Develop and maintain relationships with company investor relations and management teams, as well as ratings agencies.
  8. Assist with trade recommendation changes and learn about valuation.

Qualifications - External

  1. A minimum of 2+ years experience with company/valuation analysis, and/or credit markets experience, from roles such as equity research, banking, capital markets, sales/trading, risk. Credit research experience or TMT industry knowledge a plus.
  2. Passion to help a burgeoning credit research franchise.
  3. Advanced Excel and financial model/statement proficiency.
  4. Writing and presentation experience, demonstrating an ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
  5. Candidates are expected to be proactive, collaborative and curious, with an attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $110,000 and $125,000 per year for Analyst, and between $150,000 and $200,000 per year for Associate, at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
