This Craft Attendant Jointer (24 hour shifted) will report to the field staff supervisor and will work within Network Operations based in our Canning Town office. You will be a permanent employee in our UK Power Networks team.

You will attract a salary of £38,434 plus shift allowance dependent on rota, London Allowance and a bonus of 3%.

Job Purpose:

• The postholder is required to assist the Jointer in excavating and completing faults repairs, network alterations and new connection work which involves excavating and jointing work on the LV/HV distribution network. This will also include assisting in the restoration of LV supplies as part of fault working and system emergencies.
• You will be required to work shifts as part of a team on a rota covering an extended working day from 07:00 to 23:00 hours, 7 days per week. The average working week will be 37 hours.
• You should be prepared to study to obtain a City & Guilds 2339 (formerly 2322) certificate qualification and will have the future opportunity to undertake training to become an excavating craftsperson Jointer.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Observe all work being carried out on live LV apparatus with exposed conductors.
• Ensure safe use of equipment following health & safety procedures and network standards, specifically that colleagues on site are also wearing the relevant PPE.
• To deter members of the public from distracting staff while working on live equipment, and ensure 'Do Not Disturb' signs are prominently displayed while live electrical work is in progress.
• Set equipment up for the Jointer including preparation of work, laying out tools and equipment for a task, and providing the vehicle to allow jobs to be carried out.
• Assist the Jointer when performing work on live 240/415v apparatus, conductors or equipment following appropriate safety procedures.
• Use appropriate IT equipment such as Field Force Enablement (FFE) - an electronic job issuing system.
• Dig and help excavate holes safely and partner with external contractors.
• Support the Jointer using your own judgement to undertake risk assessments of a job regarding feasibility, safety, knowledge of tools and equipment, and liaise with Field Engineer.
• The postholder undertakes a system emergency storm role where you carry out following network standards and safety requirements.

Qualifications:

• Educated to at least GCSE level or equivalent.
• An understanding of the Electricity at Work Act, including understanding electrical diagrams and maps (i.e., points of isolation/earthing).
• New Roads & Streetworks Act (NRSWA) - Units 1, 2 and 3 achieved.
• Training would initially be at a training centre for a basic grasp of policy and health & safety. Craft Attendants would learn on the job.
• Trained in First Aid.
• Awareness of the policies relating to network standards and Health & Safety.
• Full UK driving licence required.
