Job description

Cover Supervisor required:

Qualiteach are working closely with a dedicated and inclusive special school, who are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join their team. This school specialises in supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing a structured and therapeutic learning environment to help students develop resilience, confidence, and academic skills.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Supervise and deliver pre-planned lessons across various subjects in the absence of the class teacher.
  2. Support students with SEMH needs, adapting resources and strategies to manage emotional and behavioural challenges effectively.
  3. Implement and follow behaviour support plans, using de-escalation techniques to promote positive behaviour.
  4. Build strong and trusting relationships with students to foster engagement and motivation in learning.
  5. Provide feedback on student progress, emotional well-being, and engagement to teaching staff.
  6. Work collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, and pastoral support staff to maintain a safe and nurturing learning environment.
  7. Be a team-player, occasionally pitching in with additional duties such as break and lunchtime supervision as required.
The ideal candidate will have:
  1. Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, ideally in an educational or care setting.
  2. Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to apply de-escalation strategies.
  3. An understanding of trauma-informed practice and strategies to support emotional regulation.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. A patient, resilient, and flexible approach to working in an SEMH-focused school environment.
Desirable:
  1. Experience in a special school, PRU, or alternative provision setting.
  2. A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or SEMH support.
