  • £27 per hour - Individuals; £37 per hour couples. 15 – 20 per week over 3 days, including evenings up to 7pm and/or Saturday 9am-1pm.

Role

The Organisation:

Mindspace is a community-based charity organisation committed to supporting and promoting the mental wellbeing of people in the Perth area. Mindspace is funded by NHS Tayside, Perth & Kinross Council, the Scottish Executive and donations. Mindspace’s objective is to promote mental wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment. This is provided through our counselling service, peer support and recovery college.

Purpose of Role:

To provide a counselling service for people who reside in Perth & Kinross ensuring appropriate standards of delivery, client confidentiality, and contribution to the development of the counselling service. Preferable to have experience with young people and couples.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with clients, referrers, and relevant agencies to ensure the service is accessible to and appropriate for people seeking counselling support.
  • Engage in regular external counselling supervision at a level agreed with Senior Counsellor.
  • Maintain confidentiality appropriate to setting.
  • Follow good practice and ethical guidelines as required by BACP (the Counselling Service is an organisational member of BACP).
  • Maintain adequate records of clients and hours worked (Salesforce).
  • Liaise with admin staff over new clients, and other relevant issues.
  • Be registered as an individual practitioner with BACP, COSCA or equivalent professional body.
  • Hold your own professional indemnity insurance, and current registration with ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office).

Person Specification:

Qualification

  • Experience of working short-term with clients (up to 12 sessions).
  • Minimum of 200 hours supervised counselling practice.
  • Competency in working within a recognised theoretical framework.
  • Understanding of, and willingness to adhere to, BACP Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality appropriate to the setting.
  • Experienced at offering counselling assessments, particularly with regard to risk.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Child Protection and Adult support and protection issues.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Regular individual counselling supervision.
  • Understanding of the particular issues related to counselling people experiencing mental health issues.
  • Knowledge and use of counselling monitoring and evaluation systems.

Personal Qualities

  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Motivated, enthusiastic and self-aware.
  • Ability to work independently while mindful of accountability.

Experience

  • Significant post-qualifying CPD.
  • Experience of working in the third sector.
  • Knowledge of services for people in Perth and Kinross.
  • Experience of promoting equal opportunities and cultural diversity.

Requirements

Qualifications - Essential

  • Current membership of BACP or COSCA.

Experience

  • Competency in working within a recognised theoretical framework.
  • Have worked therapeutically with young people.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Child Protection issues – ensuring knowledge is current and up to date.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality appropriate to the setting.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and with colleagues from other disciplines.
  • Understanding of issues related to counselling vulnerable, disadvantaged young people.
  • Ability to deliver counselling assessments.
  • Knowledge and use of counselling monitoring and evaluation systems.
  • Experience of developing services and liaising with partner organisations.

Personal Qualities

  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Motivated, enthusiastic and self-aware.
  • Ability to work independently while mindful of accountability.
  • Ability to travel to other schools within the locality as required.
